I was just reading this eye-opening piece by the Washington Post, about the staggering growth of the security and surveillance industry in America. It's little wonder that the FBI and the CIA had noticed the actions of the two lads, and then basically did bugger-all about them.

There is an old book, by Phillip Knightley called 'The Second Oldest Profession' which details the growth of the US CIA/FBI/Secret Service from the earliest days.
