MrsMC has just wondered what Prince Philip actually thought of Boris, given his penchant for blunt and offensive comments....

Her maj can dissolve parliament, right? And order new elections, right?

And as part of her jubilee week perhaps we should entertain her ancient powers, possibly?

The time to do that would have been around the referendum, refusing to sign Brexit into law (which would have really riled the gammons, they wouldn't know which way to turn!) and locking Boris in the tower after he lied to her in order to illegally prorogue Parliament. Frankly, anything now is too little too late.

What's the point of having a queen if she's not going to take charge every once in a while when her Government is useless?!

I assume that's a rhetorical question😃

How do you make a blunt offensive comment about Boris.  For every comment you make he counters with a triply offensive and badly thought out action, which makes the original comment seem measured

It's a sign of how awful Boris is that Prince Phillip appears measured....

of course anyone with any wit will reply ‘OK Danny’, so just to steal that little bit of thunder up front

Danny, are you okay?
So, Danny, are you okay? Are you okay, Danny?
Danny, are you okay?

I’m Danny!

… and so’s my wife!

Anyway… back on topic… it appears that Johnson’s famously stated desire to be ‘world king’ continues apace. It seems that the new ministerial code makes himself the ultimate arbiter on everything, including himself

https://twitter.com/peston/status/1530273579354447874?s=21&t=0BF-yysl0NnsE0thIO78_w

I think it’s not going to be long before he starts wearing military regalia, complete with medals he’s awarded himself, Colonel Gadaffi style. Or a crown.

So she can provide legal aid and a sanctuary to any law breaking offspring?

TBH whose really surprised that he’s rewriting the ministerial code.

Tory candidate for Tiverton and Honiton byelection told to be invisible and not speak to media for best chance of winning lol

^^^

Yeah, but he'll still win.

Buckland basically said "gammons get out and vote" this morning as the leadership 'depends' on the upcoming by-elections. Hint - it doesn't, but it is a crude way of getting Johnson's daft as a brush elderly supporters out to vote.

Predictable.

Obviously. And only this week denied even seeing it, never mind asking for changes. Lies and coverups. And when found out… new lies and new coverups. On and on it goes.

Pounds and ounces ffs. That sounds exactly like one of those fly by night ideas mentioned in that video above. Why doesn’t he build a fleet of wooden ships and invade France claiming it as ours while he’s at it.

We have an egotistical delusional imperialist narcissist running out country.

Because showing Gammons that petrol is £7,65 a gallon is really going to make them happy.
Next we will all be talking like in days of olde.

The imperial thing will cost a fortune for Local Authorities who have a duty to regulate and enforce weights and measures and will need to have two sets of equipment, one set made up of devices that do not currently exist.

The fact that we were never stopped from selling in lbs and ounces will be lost in the headlines. The EU rules only said that items must be advertised in metric measurements, they said nothing about not being allowed to show the imperial equivalent at the same time.

I've said this a couple of times on this thread, ne needs to protect our expats in France from the murderous genocidal policies of Macron, and it used to be ours historically anyway. "France" is just a fake modern concept.

Presumably we're going back shillings, guineas and groats as well?

The whole idea is pretty much unworkable for various compliance and cost reasons, it's simply one last bugle call to the blue rinse Tories who still bake their cakes for the WI using the imperial edge of the kitchen scales.

Of more concern is what he's doing in the background while this debate is going on... Possibly rewriting more bits of ministerial code, increasing the number of No Confidence letters needed to trigger a vote, or changing the rules to say if you lose a VNC you can refuse to resign anyway...

an interview with Rory Stewart describing the liar

Rory always seemed a decent sort, yes he was centre right and had tory ideologies, but he was brave enough to put his money where his mouth was and challenge Boris, and then resign and leave politics, not just skulk off to the back benches.

He does speak a lot of good stuff in that interview as well, his hatred of Boris is also clear to see! He makes a good point about Labour as well though, hopefully Starmer et al are listening in.

Well I have a feeling the Brexit benefits shelf was a little bare.

As previously stated they could always show the old weights and well pubs,it’s going to be great to be able order a pint again.
(Well apart from the artesian stuff that’s like buying liquid gold)

(Tbh I live in Spain ATM and they tend to ask me if I want a pint so I don’t really get it).

The kids will love being able to use pints and miles again instead of FOM.

But mainly done as previously stated for core support numpties.

It's a little gift to the supermarkets, even my lovely (weights and measures illiterate) wife has spotted various packaged food item getting smaller but prices either holding or increasing. Switching from grams to ounces is bound to confuzzle a few punters into acceptance...

When that 100g packet of something becomes 3oz rather than 3.5oz the shareholders and directors will be the one's laughing all the way (I might currently have some shares in a supermarket).

Either way yep it's one of several Dead cats intended to keep the tabloids from labelling Big Dog as 'Bunga-Boris' or 'Borisconi' because as we all know catchy one liners are the most powerful political weapon available today...

Wasn't this floated before, until it was pointed out that there is nobody available to make the required calibrarions of scales etc?

It’ll be just like the bridge/tunnel to N/Ireland, Scotland/IOM, dropped as quickly as the bunting after the Queen Fest.

The imperial measurements thing is just more bullshit to appeal to idiots.

It's worked before (twice at least), so why stop now?

He'll keep his head down, wrap himself in a Union Jack for Queen Fest and get a free pass out of the other side.

Talking of Queen Fest, I wonder if that is where Carrie has been hiding away. Planning the use of millions of pounds of public money for some kind of 'try hard' lavish street party outside no 10. The kind that just looks tackier the more money is thrown at it - like her taste in interior deco.

Let them eat cake!

This.

Take this handy questionaire:...

Roadsigns are in?
TV screens are measured in?
Pints of beer are measured in?(hint, the clue is in the name)
Garden sheds and fence pannels are measured in?

I wonder how many people who would support this in an on street voxpop would actually know the measurements they are clamouring for, how many oz's in a lb, lb's in a stone, chains in a mile etc

I thought that most of us, over a certain age, worked in a "hybrid" system anyway?

When I look at food weights in the shops, I still look at 500g and think 1lb, 500ml, 1 pint.

I hate this government, it just gets worse and worse everyday.
