Daughter Seadog and Mrs Seadog both use iPhones.
Daughter had problem with her data and couldn't send a message to Mum as whenever she tried phone wanted iMessage switched on, which obviously needs a data connection.

How can she just send a SMS/Text to Mum without iMessage?

She was able to call Mum, and send/receive Texts with me on a WinPhone.

She tried switching off iMessage on her phone in settings, but no joy, still wanted iMessage turned on.

I have similar with my daughter and data. After the text has ‘sent’ tap and hold the message.

There’s options in a pop up menu. Send as sms is one of them.

Was SeaMum in her contacts with a phone number, or with an email only?

In theory, turning off imessage (setttings, messages) should force SMS only from the the messages app.
