Or possibly something else. Basically, what I want is a reasonably priced gadget that will allow me to wirelessly play music from my Macbook through my stereo. I'm looking at something like this:

http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=508754

Which I *think* should at least theoretically work - my Mac has Bluetooth. But will it be able to send the correct signal? Obviously it's not listed as compatible...

Can anyone shed any light? Or better suggestions?

If your Macbook is A2DP enabled and Apple haven't locked this to an Apple proprietary A2DP receiver, yes.

My Nokia has A2DP and works a treat once paired with an active bluetooth speaker system.

Cool... LOOKS like it should work then, apparently OSX 10.5 + supports A2DP and there doesn't seem to be any locking of it. Reckon I might just give it a try...

You could try your laptop out in Dixons, or John Lewis to see if it works.

That's not a bad idea, except I rarely get near any shops 😉 18 quid off Amazon, worth a punt I reckon! Apparently my phone is A2DP too, so it should work with at least one of them!

If it'll work with an iPhone or Touch then a MacBook ought to present no problem. Cheaper than an Airport Extreme, although audio via BT isn't quite up to wifi, it should be more than good enough. I've bookmarked that little gizmo, might check one out myself.

I've ordered one, will update when it arrives. I figure the quality won't be amazing, but it's a cheap solution and should do the job. It'll mainly be playing Spotify anyway. Has to be better than the built in speakers!

Well it does work, and sound quality isn't bad at all. The only trouble is it occasionally seems to drop signal, despite being maybe 2.5m away from the receiver... If that. Looks like wifi can interfere with it, which is a bit of an issue! It's not been too bad so far tonight though...
