We will be in touch
Sometimes I wish we either lived right in the middle of nowhere, or on an estate with really big fences!
Anyhow, I've come to the conclusion that our neighbours have very little respect for anyone other than themselves (and I think even that could be questioned).
We should have realised this after they monoblocked around their house and partially converted the loft without consulting planning, then ignored anything they were told, but we figured that maybe something got lost in translation (they're Iranian) and they don't quite understand how the system works....maybe....maybe something more to do with them thinking it's better to live in a one bedroomed cottage (4 kids ranging from 2-16 and 2 parents in a one bedroomed cottage!) rather than the 3 bedroomed flat the currently rent out!
Anyway, we have a situation that behind our row of cottages is land that is earmarked for development (it's our former gardens retained by the company who sold our cottages on). Planning has been refused at least half a dozen times as there's simply not enough room for the proposed developments...la la la I digress..
so, there's no fence between this land and our garden, but we've been using the former garden area (the old link fence is still up) as our own, as have the neighbours with their bit to the rear of their cottage.
We have recently been given formal permission from the landowner to use this land for growing in and maintaining the fruit trees etc. We don't have very big gardens that are good for growing in (lots of tree cover)so it makes sense to try to utilise land that's otherwise derelict.
Now, the kids all wander about the back land, no problems with that, Last year they stripped the tree of apples, dug up two of the smaller trees and planted them in their front garden. I think it would have been nice to have been asked whether we had any objection to this, as we use the land as an extension of our garden, but nope, it was a night-time job! This has been a sore point ever since.
So, having been granted permission from the landowner, I go round next door, let them know this and suggest that we have a harvesting party, get all the kids involved and pick apples and brambles...share and share alike...good, no?
Nope, seemingly not. Got home yesterday to find 4 kids merrily picking apples. They soon got called in by their mum when she spotted me.
You try to offer a little and get it kicked back at you.
My immediate rage driven solution would have been to cut the trees down. But instead we ended up picking the apples ourselves. Brambles get picked on Saturday.
Mesh fences are planned around the garden and we'll be letting the dog loose in there most days.
What would you have done?
Dob them into the council for the loft conversion for a start!
Then fence fence fence!
loft conversion has planning permission now, although the roof has a hole in it, and has done for the last 4 months. I guess that was the official start of the works.
They went a begging to the council after they thought it may be refused (as they don't have a good track record when it comes to planning applications and paying attention to what they're being advised), stating that they would have to move house if it wasn't granted and moving a family of that size out of the area would be difficult for the kids and their education etc etc...
Big fence.
Sentinel guns?
would nuking from orbit cause too much damage to your property? 😀
I know it's the only way to be sure....but
hmm, could I get blast doors through planning in a conservation area?
probably too much knock on effects to the canal....
😉
Burn some Korans in their garden. I know where theres a few spare just now

Ah but this isn't the real world now is it!
This isn't that allotment on Godwin St is it?
Here he goes again
if is's not your land anymore and the landowner is not bothered what goes on what can you realistically do?
Fence off what is yours and join in the pilaging of the land that you politely have asked for permission for, at least you know he/she has allowed you to do this.
Would the removal of trees be deemed as theft?
Make the most of the scrub land before it gets developed and you loose the access, beat them at their own game I'd be picking the brambles tonight just incase they get there first!!!!

lol.
yeah, thought that.
The trees are in the bit that we've been given permission to use. The neighbours don't have permission to use anything out with their boundary but don't seem to quite 'get' that. More recently they've been dumping plasterboard in the more overgrown areas as it's going to get cleared anyhow.
I see their logic, but IMO they are not considering anyone other than themselves..
It's not all waste ground either, it's clear that it used to be gardens, there are small fences delineating the gardens, washing lines still up and a bloody great wooden garages out back. Of course, when we first asked the landowner to use one of these, the neighbours got in a tizzy as they considered pretty much all the land as theirs.
****s.
This isn't that allotment on Godwin St is it?
nope.
inject laxatives into the fruit??
theft/trespass and then fly tipping it gets better
so Landowner/Police and Environmental Health for starters then 😉
I'm taking there's no love lost.
Get the head torch on and get picking brambles later fella
Start to breed pigs on that land?
Burn some [s]Korans[/s] Kerrangs in their garden.
Kerrangs I have....
I think if I was looking to dispose of bodies I'd feed them to someone elses pigs.....oh, that's not what you meant?
🙂

Brilliant 😆
Teach them law the Persian/Iranian style.
Stone them!
Or tell them they would be publicly JCB hang (they use crane in Iran to save cost or for public amusement).
Or tell them you are going to report them to the ayatollah for stealing the fruits from infidels and by not wearing their strict clothing code. i.e. women must wear black head to toe clothing to prevent themselves exposing their skins.
😆
my bezzy mate at secondary was Iranian.. he was a little bugger for scrumping apples too... quite embarrassing it was..
I hated going round his house for tea though.. it was always cold dry chips and cold rice.. maybe his mum hated me..? I was always glad of the apples then..
But I will give this to the Persians as they do have some good looking women though.
I'm not really sure what the problem is...apart from the fact that you're the only person who seems to have one.
The landowner obviously doesn't care what goes on/happens on the land, so carry on as you are. It just seems you feel hard done by because you've asked permission and they haven't. Get over it.
Typical STW response on it's way....Does it matter that they're Iranian? There are plenty of English who flout planning laws and scrump apples too.
i.e. women must wear black head to toe clothing to prevent themselves exposing their skins.
Wrong...women in Iran do not have to wear black head to toe...they only have to cover their hair...or at least show an attempt to.
But yes, they do have very attractive women...my ex was born in Tehran.
dooosuk: ... Does it matter that they're Iranian?
Yes, if they are not good looking. 😆

Look at their passport and it's compulsory to wear all black for the women folks and I would prefer the men to do so instead. I prefer to look the at the beautiful women face not covering up.
For whatever reason some of their women are really good looking and no one looks as ugly as their president.
Stage a dirty protest on the apples.

It's not a strict code of dress in everyday life though is it. You only have to look at video's of the protests last year to see that or visit the place and see for yourself.
Anyway...we digress...I feel sorry for wookie getting het up about other people using land that doesn't belong to him.

At a glance, I thought that said 'bum some koreans in their garden'. In hindsight, that would have been a little extreme. Oh well...
More recently they've been dumping plasterboard in the more overgrown areas as it's going to get cleared anyhow.
Report them to your local Environmental Health team at the council and the Environment Agency as soon as you can. Fly tipping can carry a heavy fine and possibly a prison sentence in more extreme cases. You can't even landfill plasterboard anymore so I'm sure they will get less than polite treatment from the EA.
Does it matter that they're Iranian?
Yes, otherwise the allegorical reference to an as yet unidentified Middle East conflict wouldn't work.
See previous example Unless this is real, in which case i aplogise (and sympathise).
I was mentioning that they were Iranian as I hoped that their lack of politeness (IMO) was more to do with cultural differences rather than them just being impolite.
I guess it's a shame when other folk don't share your values. We had hoped and thought we were working on a share and share alike relationship, but it all seems a bit one sided which we weren't expecting. 🙁
The landowner obviously doesn't care what goes on/happens on the land, so carry on as you are
Not sure how you can be certain of that. He doesn't live locally so doesn't see the land. The comments we've had from him state that he's happy for us to use the land as our own until planning is approved. He recognises that if the land appears to be being used for something it'll discourage it being used for antisocial behaviour.
With regards the plasterboard, we had hoped that the neighbours would have understood that, if you can see it from the road, it may encourage others to tip on the site.
move?
Seriously. Speak calmly to them again but tell them how you feel. Find a compromise for both sides. Make sure when you are discussing with them they are all around i.e. the family. Importantly you need to speak to their head of household to set the rules right which is usually the husband (men folks) and try not to speak too much to the women folks when the men folks are not around. i.e. their wife or daughter(s) since the husband rules the roost. Speaking to the wife might cause a bit of a tension if you are not careful as the men might think you are up to no good with their women folks even if you have no intention to do so.
Hmm I may not be the best person to give advice on this 😆
You could always try growing something different. A pair maybe.

Well, with your track record on anti-semitism, anti-indo-aryianism and anti-elfinism, pehaps it's for the best.
