Having purchased my 'dream' bike, I would like to insure it.
I did get it for a good price (it's second hand) but would like to insure it for what it would cost to buy now, which is considerably more. Not because I want to profit; I don't want it stolen at all - it's gorgeous!... but because I searched high and low to get my bike and if some little sh** decided to steal it from my garage, I don't want to be limited to my puchase price (I recently had my car stolen off my driveway and burnt out within hours, so a bit tender).
Obviously I could go via my home insurer whom I will be enquiring with, but wondered if anyone has any advice, or is there even a company that wil provide bike only insurance, irrespective of my home policy?
Thanks, Rich
Go with your home insurer (although check how much they will cover, with or without it being a named item - you may have to switch insurer if it's very low). Specialist bike insurers do exist but annual premiums are around 10% of the insured value, they often also have more exacting conditions than home insurance (specific lock/chain standards required etc.), although you can get some useful additions (race cover, breakdown cover) etc. although you'll pay a lot for them and should be available as separate policies in their own right.
Thank you fuzzy; I will ring home insurer tomorrow - it's the new for old I'm concerned about! Thanks, Rich
