Awacs out over North sea atm, a favourite of mine in an 'it shouldn't really work' kinda way. 🙂

The X37B just looks a bit naff like it was cobbled together out of spare bits and gaffer tape in some backroom by out-of-work and bored ex space shuttle engineers. Now the SR71 & X12…they were proper bits of kit, proper badass.

Completely different job descriptions - the X37B is basically a space-going Transit, a pint-sized space shuttle doing routine ground-space operations with a variety of science and military projects autonomously. The SR71 was an ultra high-speed spook ship based on an ultra high-speed interceptor.

Been watching a A400 doing touch and goes at Mildenham, 3 large circuits, now doing smaller ones. The first passed right overhead.
Must stop watching and do something.

Looks like there’s something of interest in Kalingrad with signals gathering aircraft having a look from either side for the last few hours

Lots of private aircraft 'p1ssing' about in the North West - i.e. joyflights (just meandering flightpaths). I few IOM flights, some cargo.

That website is immense. Far more interesting than all the things I should be doing. Can now see the route the Airlines takes from Heathrow going West and how surprisingly busy little airports like Gloucester are.

I wonder what the C130 flying at 150feet over Hereford might be doing 😉

There's a C-17 Globemaster currently training out of Wittering (until Friday, I think). It went pretty much over our house yesterday.

Something just flew over, low, I heard it out of the window, and it's not appearing on the tracker.

Makes you think, eh? There must be a CIA BlackOps site just outside Cirencester...

That tracking site is excellent, I’ve saved it onto the homepage on my pad and phone for easy access in future. I didn’t get around to it until this evening, shame ‘cos there were a lot of contrails around, one was clearly a fast jet of some sort, but far off.
Thanks for the link, it will be used a lot!

It is a bloody great site, eh! So much so that I'm considering moving it from my 'Mapping' folder to my 'Entertainment' folder on Chrome...

I love under the approach into RAF Lossiemouth and have typhoons over my head almost constantly - though they don’t show up on that site. Anyone got an explanation why? I don’t really understand what I’m looking at to be fair...

Aye, lots of military stuff in and out of PIK doesn't show up either, not worked out if I've a filter by altitude set up or something

Aye like @mulacs there are Typhoons in and out a lot but not visible. Maybe is a height filter.
Lots from Lincs, not many seem to get this far north.

@nobeer PIK - might be a height filter on their side -- see quite a few flights heading that way, then dropping, then just disappear.

Nice spot, just watch it land at Brize Norton.

Probably Fairford rather than Brize? I saw it’s contrail as it headed in front of the moon between Bridgnorth and Kiddy

Indeed you are correct; I was watching on a small laptop from 400miles away and my eyes are tired!

Hawk trainer just gone over twice on Manchester Airports flight path, second time with landing gear down. Flew in from Angelsey, did a couple of laps of Manchester, now out half way to Isle of Man.

Interesting where some of the military transporters go. Watched a US transporter land in Ouled Sidi Brahim, @35.317894,4.1922606,3107m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m13!1m7!3m6!1s0x128a43c58549e315:0x9b9b3835c2ef8456!2sA%C3%AFn+El+Melh,+Algeria!3b1!8m2!3d34.8467202!4d4.1618039!3m4!1s0x128bba83f33299d7:0x16200ab1eea2cd38!8m2!3d35.3196971!4d4.1953115">Algeria Airbase doesn't show on the traking website but go to google earth and it shows up as an unnamed airbase, looks new.

I was watching a couple of Puma helicopters earlier flying close to Inverness - they were not showing up on the tracker.

The coastguard helicopter doesn't either.

Kuco, I work a lot of traffic in and out of lakenheath/mildenhall. I've had to look at the Icao airport destination then Google it. I've never heard of these places.

Both the C17 and the A400M were active earlier. C17 up in Scotland, the A400M going up the east coast over the Irish Sea.

@fossy - the Hawk will have been out of RAF Valley.

The A400 was doing some training at Glasgow, it was due to do 4 or 5 approaches I think.

I’ve just heard it on its way home past Troon.

I spent some time watching a pair of V-22 Osprey yesterday, flying around south Dorset, Weymouth and Portland Bill, then around Bovington. They were very close together most of the time, then split up vanishing off the tracker at various times. The looked to be having some fun, getting up to nearly 400kts at 500ft then 160 at 1600ft.
They took of from close to the Royal Marine base at Poole, one had no call-sign, just XXXXX, the other was carrying Knife71, so I’d hazard a guess that at least one was being used by Commandos. There’s also a possibility of a connection to another base at Hereford, there’s been rumours they are obtaining a couple of Osprey because of the operational advantages over Chinook, range, altitude, etc.
Makes you wonder... 😉

There's some sort of exercise taking place just north of the The Wash. Lots of activity.

Raggatip you're got better-googling skills than me as I didn't find anything about it.

CounZero there were two Ospreys flying very close together yesterday afternoon but they were the other side of the country around King's Lynn.

I think I have developed an unhealthy obsession with this site.

LBA must have some staff on the last few days as a small number of planes have been in and out. Strangely though, a white unmarked Lear jet sort of thing has taken off both today and yesterday, and as I've been out in the garden with little to do, I've looked at Flight tracker24 and the plane doesn't show up. Any ideas? Menwith Hill isn't too far away (listening station) and I know the yanks there use LBA a lot. Just saying.

There was a Eurofighter Typhoon flying around the Wash today, from Conningsby, I think it might have been trying to do a 3D proof of that knot theory slice problem someone posted about...
