I need a couple of (very small) parts for my car - a pair of clips that will secure the turbo tubing that keeps coming off.
Not being up on cars all that much, I could just go to the dealer - trouble is they're a shower of usurious c_unts who have already ripped me off once - don't fancy paying 40 quid for a couple of 40p items. What's the best way of getting the right part numbers / ordering items?

Car is a seat leon tdi.

Find a local motor factors retailer - Andrew Page is the best on in the Yorkshire area. Where are you based?

Usually bits like that are not too bad (though I have been charged £3 for an M8x1 bolt by Toyota). Worth giving them a call. However if the standard clips keep coming off you might want to look at better options, and they wont be cheaper.

Bottom of this page:

But make sure you ask what postage is and for cheaper postage if you do, or they'll send it by £4 post automatically assuming you want it yesterday.

It might well not be the clips that's the problem - once the pipe's been off once it usually gets oil all over it where it fits on.

Get everything nice and clean and try putting it back on again, you might not need to spend anything.

Sorry if you've already done this!

Toyota, £130 (fitted) for a 12" rubber Intercooler hose.
Was away on hols so had to pay-up.
Robbing gits.

I used an online parts service once, the one that emails loads of breakers for you. Got a £200 wing mirror for £45.

Not a bad saving, but you could do better if you went direct to a breakers and took one off yourself. Tradeoff of time I suppose though!

takisawa - Toyota quoted me £1200 + VAT and parts to change a clutch on mine. £130 for a water pump (£30 down the local partco) but amazingly only charged me £30 for 5 complete water hoses (all rad hoses, turbo coolant hose interlinks etc). Very odd pricing, im sure they make it up on the day.

car make/model owners club/forum?

I get all my MG bits through them, its cheep, generaly pattern parts are, although my 'mate' keeps telling me he can get them cheeper through a contact at a distributor, before coming back with a part he promises will fit for more money.

Thanks all, plenty to be going on there. Cleaning the pipe is a good shout, would probably help.
