Sounds like a simple thing but I've tried a few and I'm yet to find a really good one. Anyone got one that they think is particularly brilliant?

Starbucks ones are the best, easily. You might not like the coffee but their mugs are by far the best I've seen.

Those pics of mine just above Stoner's in the link he posted are of my Contigo mug (I think molgrips wanted a mug he could put coffee in for his cycle to the station, or something).

The Contigo one is almost too good to be honest. I got it to take into the garage when working on the bike in the winter, but I quite often use it with the lid off as it takes so long for the drink to get to a comfortable temperature with the lid on.
It seals completely (unless the button gets pressed).

Tea doesn't taste the same as it does from a ceramic mug, but I think that's just a 'drinking from metal' thing. Coffee tastes fine and it doesn't seem to stain.

If you get one, go for the plain stainless, rather than the coloured ones as they can't be put in the dishwasher (although the lid can).

I have a Contigo. It's great. However, the shit that comes out of it when it's washed. Unreal.

I find they're all much of a muchness but the trick is not to put milk in. It inpregnates the seals and quite quickly begins to smell and taste a little......ripe

Mine doesn't smell of milk as long as it's been cleaned properly.

The "Aladdin Papillon Tumbler" gets my vote. Use mine every day, doesn't leak or smell. It's seamless so water can't get in to the void and stink it up like all the other ones I've had.

Wild Bean Cafe were doing decent metal ones for around a fiver, including a large hot drink of your choice.
Loads of lads at work have them, one blokes even stopped using his massively expensive Bodum mug in favour of one.

I got given this one by Chris Igleheart, it's brilliant as it also is designed for a bottle cage and is totally leak proof. Can't remember who makes it but can check later.

I have a couple of Bodum ones which are excellent. One has a cafetiere bit too so I get have a proper coffee with minimal hassle in the mornings.

They do a good job at keeping in the heat - a drink I make at 06:30 is still good and hot two hours later. They also seem pretty good at not leaking.

On the downside they are expensive and quite big and don't fit in small cup holders in cars - eg they are fine in the door holder of an Octavia, but not the centre console holders.

Hope this helps.

As said on the other thread. Morrisons ones are brilliant. I make up two of them before work (coffee) and they stay warm for hours.
Totally leak proof too so you can just chuck them in a bag.

And only £4

What's not to like.

I'm not convinced by the metal insulated ones, I find they make drinks taste different and too hot. I use a KeepCup, means drink once made is at optimum drinkable temperature at same rate as a normal cup. It fits in cup holders as theres no handle to get in the way and a silicone gripper to keep it in place. Comes in lots of nice colours too.
