I have this Humax HDR 2000T and I'm pretty happy with it:
http://www.humaxdigital.com/uk/products/product.php?gid=479

Good points: 1TB storage, can stream recordings to/from other devices via Ethernet or wifi, also takes USB sticks. Good menu system and TV guide. Has an iplayer app too.

There is a 500MB version if you want a cheaper option.

I've got a Humax HDR T2 and it's most excellent. Can record 3 progs a once, has a remote record web site that works better than Sky and acts as a dlna server so you can watch any recorded stuff on any device on the network.

I bought the missus a Humax freesat box thingy last night. Opted for an external drive 'cause it works out cheaper for more space. It seems to record as the other models in their range - watch one, record one. Or record two.

Far better than the Labgear piece of crap it replaced.

I've got a TalkTalk YouView box. YouView is great, but this thing is a horrible implementation of it. Laggy, buggy, plasticy POC.

My Humax T2 was buggy and went back when it kept freezing. Probably got a bad one but missed toO many recordings to trust it. Much happier with my panasonic hwt130. Does remote setting over the internet, network serving, iplayer.

This +1000, not sure the make but give it a wide wide birth. After 15 mins all the functions start to work but it's pretty easy for it to throw a hissy fit and stop working.

youview is ace.

We bought a Humax Youview box a couple of years ago and it went the way of nickjb's after 18 months. We got a replacement one a couple of months ago and that's been fine to date. The EPG is a bit clunky IMO but that's real 1st world problems stuff.

Thing that put me off YouView boxes is that none of them seemed to offer DLNA or streaming.
Apparently it is restricted as part of the YouView license.

Not sure if that has been sorted out yet.

This 1001! It is made by Huawei. Avoid, it really is a POS.

I used the built in Freeview in the TV and then I attached a old USB HD I had to store programmes on. Cheap and effecient. Works well.

Works well.

Really?
Can it record when the TV is off?
Can it record two or three programs at once?
Can it even record one program while you watch another?

I doubt it - none of the TV's I'had with this feature could do any of the above.

Compared to a Humax which can be bought for less than £100 which can do all the above plus adding some serious other features (i.e. dlna client AND server), it doesn't look particularly impressive.
Sorry Mr Bear.
