Has to be small to fit in a pocket, have rechargable battery with decent lifespan, simple to use and take good quality photos.
Quite like some of the Sony stuff available but don't know much about compacts these days so hoping I can get some advice and a point in the right direction.

Ricoh CX3 - not exciting, but fits all your needs, is solid enough and takes good quality pictures. I bought one a month or so back and have been very impressed, particularly with the multi-shot mode and the shutter response. Around £150-160 online.
Just bought my wife the Nikon S3100, very small, very light and so far very good.
