Watched for the first time last night The Curious Life Of Benjamin Button.........what a blub fest, myself and Mrs BB were blubbing like a right pair numpties. I didn't think it would be any good really but i thought it was a really brilliant film surprising for something that had Brad Pitt in it.

I watched it at the cinema when it first came out, me and my dad fell asleep.

Much better when I was prepared for how long it was!

Yep I opted out of not watching it last night purely after noticing the length of it.

it's interesting for a bit because of the concept, but not the storyline
and Pitt is too pretty for Blanchett

I agree Benjamin Button is an excellent film.

However, I watched the Lovely Bones, which has left me emotionally scarred for life.

Lovely Bones

Happens to be the worst film that I have ever seen.

Perhaps my favourite Blanchett performance in Notes On a Scandal. Both her and Judi Dench play off very well.

Benjamin Button is more or less pointless. It is just a traditional love story and he happens to age backwards. I don't think it means anything or perhaps that is exactly the point.

Anyway I thought it was OK, but not much more. On the other hand I am prepared to accept that I am wrong on this if someone can explain why.

watched it a few times, it never gets old... BOOM BOOM!

Not really, once was enough - mawkish shite.

Good film, if long. Liked the comic relief of the bloke who kept talking about each of the 7 times he got struck by lightning too.

I thought it was a bit rubbish too. There seemed to be no point to him ageing backwards, it was hardly used in the story at all, it didn't add anything other than excuse to use some special effects. The entire film would be exactly the same if he aged forwards, and it would be obvious its a pretty average love story thats been done hundreds of times before.

Horatio put it better than me, but that is exactly what I meant.

Not seen the film, but the book is one of the best I've read.

Benjamin Button is a character film, with the reverse aging thrown in to make it a little different, and allow the story writers to examine how those circumstances would affect the people involved.

If you lack the empathy to identify with the characters, you won't get the film.

Is it not a bit like A Picture of Dorian Gray?

Erm pretty much every story has been told before, you add a twist or change it slightly repackage it and rake in the money.

I liked it when I saw it at the pics and enjoyed it again last night.

This made me laugh. Surely that is the whole point of the entire film. It's a love story that couldn't be further removed from the typical "happy ever after". The 2 main characters know full well their relationship is going to be a bit, erm, "tricky" and the film explores that.

It was too long though.

Plus the fact that their relationship can only be celebrated physically in a certain narrow window of oppertunity.
I enjoyed it for what it is, an entertaining story. Did make me blub in places too.

He's been in lots of good films.

Totally agree.

Twelve Monkeys
Se7en
Fight Club
Snatch
Burn After Reading (a very under-rated film IMO)

Nah - never got on with any of the Ocean's films (although I accept 11 was the best of a bad bunch (IMO of course).
