For once i completely agree that The BBC should not act as a sensor.

I do not agree on one thing that the BNP stand for. Let me get that straight but we do live in a free democratic country and as this party has been elected in certain areas they need to be given a voice so the public can scrutinise their values.

i know this is a bit of a hot potato at the moment but whats your thinking?

on a serious note i dont agree with them at all, but its the voters fault getting them to the point their at.

they are saying it will be the start of a BNP uprising in popularity, i think and hope he will just make a fekin arse of himself.

Fair play to the BBC for letting this guy on - I dont agree with any of their policies at all but the more you deny someone the the right to a platform, the more ammunition you give them. Let him on & watch the whole thing blow up! Its going to be car crash TV this!

The news coverage of the protests is interesting. I really fail to see what that group of scruffy half-wits thinks they're doing? The BNP couldn't buy publicity like this. Ironically if the mob manage to stop Griffin speaking he'll come off infinitely better than if he gets to spout his crap. Idiots.

crap, I hope that doesn't mean that all bog-eyed looneys will be associated with the BNP, I'll be in trouble.

Eyes aside, I am quite looking foward to it, should be quite lively. No need to censor it as most people are aware of their inherent nastyness.

The problem is that they do have some attractive policy ideas over and above their out and out racism, many of which are a no-no to the mainstream parties (from the Telegraph):

It favours nationalisation and a break up of "socially, economically and politically damaging monopolies".

It would devolve powers to the "lowest level possible" to give local people as big a say in decisions as possible.

On health, it is committed to a free, fully funded NHS for all Britons and wants more emphasis on healthy living and sickness prevention.

Those responsible for causing pollution should pay and towns should be a blend of local architectural styles and take place on "a more human scale".

The BNP would restore the earnings link with pensions.

yeah but all thsi talk of the socialist economic principles etc of the bnp is irrelevant

they exist to promote racism

anyone who votes for them is fully aware of their racist roots
regardless of how much they wanna stick 2 fingers up to the current crop of torry/labour windbags , you would only support the bnp if you are racist

Didn't the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei also advocate healthy living and outdoor exercise?

kimbers,

I know that, but meet people in my work who say they'll put up with racism if those principles are returned to society.

People are generally selfish and some will vote for personal gains even if someone else loses out.

Many (if not most) people don't give a shit about child labour so long as they're clothes are cheaper or pesticides poisoning whole communities cos they want cheap good quality bananas - even when they know they still act to benefit themselves and sod everyone else.

beans they also have downright outrageous policies too: no mixed marriage (dilutes a white family line), non-whites are not ethnically British no matter how many generations of your Family have live in the UK. For me its the racist overtones I cant ignore. I dont know about their other policies as their website is down right now...

Not arsed tbh - exposing the likes of the BNP to public scrutiny is generally a good thing. Nick Griffin doesn't strike me as particularly intelligent and can't speak articulately from what little I've seen of him - think he'll struggle in the QT forum.

This could of course give him the sympathy vote a la Sarah Palin trying to debate with Joe Biden. Biden knew this and was canny enough not to take Palin to the woodshed. I doubt Bonnie Greer - an aching ballsack of a woman who should herself be censured for boring the aris of the viewing public - will show similar restraint.

If we didn't have such a weak government and opposition and flawed immigration control then the BNP wouldn't be making the headlines.

I really don't want the BNP to get popular at all but I aware it might because successive governments have done such a rubbish job.

Exactly - give them enough rope... and they'll hang themselves! banning them will make them more powerful.
Confront their arguments, rather than shy away saying they should be banned, increases the appeal.

has being banned ever made anything go away?

Except the BNP's policies aren't policies. They do what parties are increasingly doing; just providing generic flavours of politics which are so unspecific they sound like reasonbly good ideas. There is no detail, and if you think some of them through they are idiotic.

But how do you counter his arguments and ideas if you dont do this.
Give him rope, let him argue himself into a mess and hang himself.

exposing the likes of the BNP to public scrutiny is generally a good thing.

I think you might be confusing what programme he's appearing on. Question Time doesn't scrutinise any politicians.

It simply asks a selection of guests, many of them not politicians, to philosophise on an assortment of topics.

There is no reason why there should be any scrutinising or grilling going on. Are you confusing it with Newsnight and Jeremy Paxman ?

i trully hope that they ask him pertinet questions, expose the nonsense of his policies - british jobs british workers, what your gonna nationalise asda? (the website did have details of these crackpot policies but recently seems you can join or give money!!)

unfortunately i think it will degenerate into calling him a fascist repeatedly!

as an aside what do they think of mixed parantage people. If 'ethnically british' people have a right to be here, but others don't do people who are 3/4 british have 3/4s of the right to be here and 1/2 white people can only be here 6 months of the year?

Agree that the BBC should have this nutter on. Air his views and challenge them. Ernie, of course it ain't Paxman, but QT can often be more aggressive than Newsnight. If you don't want this scum on TV then they should be outlawed. Whilever they are on voting papers then they are legitimate, and the BBC should give them a slot.

Huh ? You are kidding me aren't you ? Will Bonnie Greer get a grilling ? .......no of course not. She will be asked to pontificate and philosophise.

If they make a point of giving Nick Griffin a hard time, he will simply be seen as a victim of unfair prejudice - something which the BNP always tries to milk for every last drop.

I find it hard to believe that the Telegraph could not see that their [BNP] "broader policies" at are odds and completely undermined by their racist underpinnings.

How can you possibly have a policy statement supporting a fully funded, free NHS for all Britons when you fail to accept that all people are born into this world equal in the first place.

Let's hope he hangs himself tonight.

Who really gives a f?

I do. Millions of right minded people do. The vast, overwhelming majority of this country do.

I give a f that such an odious individual and such an odious political organisation has gained even the tiniest foothold of political power. I give a f*** that we find every opportunity to decry everything that they say and to stop them having the slightest chance of gaining any more political influence.

This must be done by peaceful, deomcratic means. It must not be violent, it must be reasoned and measured, but it must be done.

i am wondering whether we should all join the BNP and change the constitution and just keep doing it every time they form.
Not looking good but no real surprise there is....enjoying the holocaust denial with immunity from prosecution and still no answer.
Very entertaining.

mleh its ended up like a episode of bigbrother. Should have questioned him on other issues than the obvious.

odious political organisation has gained even the tiniest foothold of political power

It has not reached a plateau yet, the longer the main parties line there pockets with gold, the bnp will get votes.

Dimbleby's brilliant - he's usually totally neutral, but he's riping the p1sh out of the fat fascist.
Straw's completely underperforming, but his comment about being the justice minister as well delivered.

Well done BBC, you've given him the rope, he's getting on with the job

He proves himself to be an irrelevance

I am not watching it 'cos I can't be bothered - I'll read the analysis tomorrow in a couple of different papers.

However when I saw who was on the panel I thought that they should be able to take him to pieces - he really is the thicko amongst them altho jack Straw is so weak and scared he might give him legitimacy accidentally - but hopefully he finds some bottle to challenge him.
