I'm in Goa on holiday & every evening at dusk these big **** off bats start flying overhead. I mean they're not pipistrelles & must have a wingspan of about 3ft! They flap their wings quite slowly compared to the flying mice we have in blighty,
Any ideas what they are, Fruit bats maybe?

Yeap ... used to hunt them for food as a kid with my uncle. They are the giant fruit bats, face/head looks like a dog, with both wings stretch to about 6ft easy. Also known as flying fox.

Stopped hunting after being told off by my father.

Nowadays I would even harm such a beautiful creature ...

😀

p/s: then we moved on to hunt giant black squirrel, about half a size larger than average grey and taste better than rabbit, then was told off again by my father so stopped ...
