Does anyone know if it is possible to get a kind of obscure glass that still works at night when the bathroom light is on?

I am about to start decorating my bathroom and would like to get rid of the blind if possible.

Most opaque glasses are useless in the evening!

Eh? Define useless? You can't see through them. Maybe you can make out shapes but is that an issue?

What nick said. You can see shapes but that's about it unless someone literally has their eyeball on the window. You could just get frosted glass which may be better?

Fit a Venitian blind and close the slats at night.

You can get frosted film too to save the expense of a new window?

Frosted film works well. B&Q sell it.

Apologies for lack of clarity (!).

Useless as in at night you can see bodies through the glass!!

If you don't want people to see the bodies then maybe you shouldn't be keeping them in your bathroom. Basements are always a good option.

Regrettably there are no products in the market which defy the laws of physics. If you can see through it so can someone else.

If you're worried about people seeing obscured shapes you need a blind or other that you can't see through

Well one way mirror glass would defy physics but was looking for something less 'harsh'.

I know I can fit a blind (already have one) but would prefer not to.

why would you want to remove the blind ?

your just creating a cold spot doing that.

The other thing you can do is put the rooms light between the bodies and the window.

Doesnt stop the heat escaping but should minimise the outline.

If it is double glazed you could put obscure glass in both panes which would make it very blurry but you'll still see something

Get fat and make it their problem.

The alternative is perhaps to wear some form of fancy dress whilst using the bathroom so as to confuse the body shape should anyone be watching.

To be honest I wouldn't like the neighbours to be able to count my grapes when I'm showering kayak, that sort of thing is what doctors are for.

Why do I now have Tales of the Unexpected opening credits in my head?

One-way mirror glass won't work either!
That only works if the outside is significantly brighter than the inside - not the case at night.

You need a blind.

You can get very expensive switchable LCD film, but that doesn't block light 100% so people will still see what you are up to at night.

That lcd film isn't as good as you'd hope yet, it's obscure only and it's no better than frosted glass.

Went through exactly the same decision making and research last year... ended up with venetian blinds.

If it's double glazed. Change the units to some with blinds in the unit. We use them a lot for bathrooms and conservatorys. Lots of different colours available

White laminated glass is very obscure.

We've got averagely obscure glass and added opaque window film on the inside as the neighbours added velux windows that overlook the bathroom from above. I'm sure you can still see through it a bit, but if anyone wants to peer at the window thats their problem 🙂

@robido - that is a very good idea that I hadn't thought of.

@robido - Thanks for the integrated blind suggestion, finally finished the new bathroom and fitted the new double glazing panel today. Really pleased with it, a very elegant solution and no blinds taking up window sill space.

How do they work in a sealed panel? Magnetic coupling of some sort?

Yes, magnetic coupling. Seems to work really well.

We don't have opaque/frosted glass in our bathroom. I can look over the Solway to Scotland while I brush my teeth/have a pee.
