My old man is off to the states at the end off the week for a month just wondering what I should put on a shopping list for him, so far all I've got is oakleys, just wondered if there is any bike related stuff that is alot cheaper in the states! Ive seen a thread about this recently but can't find it now?

Levi's are typically less than half the price they are here. That's usually my first port of call.

Pick up a nice big bottle of Maker's Mark in the duty free on the way back too.

I'm in the US, and it seems that some bike stuff is cheaper in the US, while some is definitely cheaper in Europe/UK. I haven't been able to figure out any hard rules on pricing, though. I suspect that a lot of it depends on the exchange rate, the date when suppliers set their prices, country of origin, import duties and tariffs, and probably the phase of the moon.

I'd kill to be able to buy some Schwalbe Hans Dampf tires at the German price (about 35 euros incl VAT)! Full price here in a LBS is about $90 per tire, maybe $70 is about the lowest price that you'll find online.

based on a visit to a levi's store recently it seems that sizing/QC is extremely variable and it might be risky buying without trying on.

The sales girl said that she likes to think of levi's jeans as 'snowflakes', each one is individual!

Apple products.

From experience Oakley isn't that much cheaper once you add tax. Designer jeans always are cheaper, such as Rock & Republic and True Religion.

If you buy electronics, be sure to look carefully and make sure that they will work with UK power. The US is 110v 60hz, and our plugs and sockets are way different, too. Many power supplies for things like laptop computers work with both voltages. But be sure to check; buying a new power supply could more than wipe out any cost savings.

not sure if i am unlucky, but levi's cuts vary from place to place, batch to batch. eg, i wear 517 bootcuts almost exclusively, and the same size would differ greatly. i now always try before buying.
