Looking for an affordable but safe (i'll have my bike with me) hostel in Barcelona for a couple of nights. Any advice/recommendations?
Thanks!
Not a hostel as much as an apartment, but for hostel prices. Pension La Calma. It is just east of Plaza Real, South of Calle Ferrara. Poke around a bit in the alleys to find it, you'll find it (ask for directions if you need to). It's just off the North East corner of Plaza Real. The upstairs rooms aren't much but the apartment downstairs is fantastic, ask for that. You'll know you're in the right street because it smells of $hit but the place is great. The owners only speak Spanish. It's 30 euros a night for a shared room. It's safe. Best cheap place to stay in the city. But important to ask for the downstairs apartment room. They have a website.
This summer in Lisbon I stayed at a place called Oasis which is part of an alliance of 23 of the best hostels in Europe called "Europe's Famous Hostels". Oasis was great, a beautifully converted old townhouse with lovely staff. The best I can suggest is that you stay in the equivalent in Barcelona, called Kabul
If it's anything like Oasis I imagine you'll love it, and that the staff will bend over backwards to help you with your bike. Not stayed there myself, though I would if I was going to Barcelona.
