Did they run out of fuel, and couldn't find a pump with a long enough hose?

When it starts moving it somehow looks even more ridiculous and deadly than it already obviously was

The wing mirror... even if nothing else was wrong, the wing mirror.

They might have tried steering it.

Their attempts to run square wheels went equally well

Evel Knievel video from above

Did he ever actually succeed at any of his stunts?

Apparently there were some, but they were all at the top, since they assumed he was going to crash really quickly rather than down near the bottom, and it took them ages to get to him.

Perhaps if they'd had bikes they'd have got to him quicker. No, wait...

Perhaps they were considered superfluous at operation certain death

Recently saw an earnings video by Ryan Van Duzer (the US cycling adventure guy). It really shows that you don't need to put a lot of editing effort into youtube, you just need to be a bit crazy and go viral.

Ryan - 14 years on youtube, just 58k subscribers, 2 decent videos a week, top video in 2019 was 230k views/$500, total channel views 9.5m. Spends weeks cycling across the US to make a video series. Earns about $1000 a month.

WhistlinDiesel - 4 years on youtube (1 year creating), 575k subscibers, 5 stupid videos per week, aforementioned 20ft wheels video is on 1.6m views, total channel views 97 million. Buys lots of wheel spacers or drives over a barn roof to create a video. So by a rough guesstimate, earnings must be $3,000 for the 20ft wheels and perhaps $15,000 per month. Now we know why he really doesn't care about tearing apart a truck every few days!

I spose the difference is anyone will watch someone try and drive on square wheels, but only a minority will watch a cycling film.

What gets me about that bike record attempt is he is not wearing protective kit! Not even a helmet ( that thing is a fairing for his head)

I'd be wanting full on moto gp style leathers, airbags and helmets

At primary school we watched a film about the dangers of electricity (early 80s and was the one where the frisbee got caught on a pylon).

So..... when I got home I confirmed the danger by putting a kilt pin on a plug which I then put in the socket & switched on. Yep, there was a big bang, a flash, and the power went out.

The electrician who repaired my experiment made some comment about the dangers of electricity....

Probably worried about rotational injuries.

TJ, did you, did you just condone wearing a helmet whilst cycling?

What’s happening?

Helmets don't do anything anyway

Ooft. I think in his shoes I'd have done that off a bridge (above water).

Always have done when appropriate- so long as you perform a reasonable risk assessment and have no illusions about how protective they are. Moto gp riders now have airbags IIRC that act as a neck brace 😉

But the head fairing would protect against rotational injury.

Franz Reichelt 😲

I loved however the devil may care attitude that instead of a small ladder went for the stool on top of a table approach. He's never done his working at height badge obviously! And measuring the size of the dent just adds insult to (considerable) injury.

And survived the fall only to be drowned in your ridiculous silken contraption once it very rapidly became waterlogged?
