A lot of the CGI still has that 'plasicky' look to me. The part where he arrives, and the 'tech' look. The 'organic' parts do look better though.
cameron seems to have fallen into the trap of many a middle aged director, early stuff was gritty and uncompromising(terminator, aliens), later stuff grows ever more sentimental and formulaic (TITANIC!!!!)

Just realised, the movie will be in Digital 3D won't it? That'll add to it... the new 3D stuff is really good (have you seen Ice Age 3D or 3G, purely for the cool 3D stuff rather than the plot or anything else 🙂 )

Looks like a trailer to a PC game. Will 3D improve matters? Big floating islands, tall thin blue people riding around on bird/dragon things...whilst fighting what? Space marines?
A mid 90's Japanese fantasy aesthetic with middling CGI. Not good. Underwhelmed, really.
The blue pixie people and the space marines put me off. A lot.
But then he did do the Abyss which cancels out Titanic.

His early stuff was gritty and tight, but now he seems to have gone down the path of flabbily paced, mawkish drek.

Not sure what to make of the trailer though, the blue aliens on dragons were pretty hokey. Also agree that it looked a bit too much like a game trailer or cut scene and didn't seem to have that gritty look that, say, Aliens had.
That said, I think the 3D stuff is supposed to have been an integral part of how it was made, so I suppose it's inevitable that it's not going to look as good on a monitor. Will probably go and see it.
After Avatar, he's finally supposed to be doing Battle Angel (Gunnm remake), and i'm hoping to hell he doesnt ruin it.
Does look like a trailer for a video game. I've seen Ice Age 3 in 3-D and I cannot see how 3-D will make what we've seen of Avatar in that trailer substantially better than it is now.
