Need a new AV receiver for a set of Tannoy 5.1 speakers. Will be used for films and also playing CDs/steamed music etc (although I understand the limitations of AV amps and small speakers in that respect). Currently using our back-up old one box Philips CD/5.1 system as my old Sony QS AV amp is now dead (none HDMI etc so needed to go anyway).

I would like something with wireless, BT, DLNA, BT etc but seem to be looking at £250-350 but am wondering if it would make more sense to just buy a cheaper amp and plug in something like a Chromecast/Roku/AppleTV/Android box etc

We also want a blueray player so another option is a smart blueray player or something like an Xbox One but not sure how these compare in terms of streaming features. We would pretty much be using an android phone or ipad to control the system and am just setting up a network storage which will have all our music on which will probably be running Plex or something (still working it all out).

Chromecast is how I've done it. TV audio optical out to a Cambridge Audio Azur 540R v3 and Kef Q5 speakers. Streamed music/TV/films sound perfectly fine to my ears, and the bonus of the Chromecast is I find a new way of doing stuff nearly every day, e.g. yesterday we Skyped the family down south with them on the TV screen via "cast screen" option on my phone.

All for £25.
