My dad will be spending some time in hospital over Christmas and has asked for a CD player so that he can listen to some audio books. I am wondering if a tablet might not be a better solution though - he could then go online and download a bigger selection of books than he could get from the local library, and there'd be messing around with borrowing physical media.
Ease of use would be my primary concern with a tablet. My mum has an ipad which, whilst I dislike it with a passion, seems pretty simple to use. I have a Note 10.1 which I worry would be overly fussy for my Dad.
Whatever I get him is rather unlikely to be used for web surfing/emailing/watching videos, etc. but might in the future be used for ebooks. I'd need to pick up something this weekend/early next week at the latest.
Does anyone have experience with older users and the Kindle Fire/Nexus, etc. especially with regard to audio books ? I know basic Kindle ebook readers are easy to use, but what is the Fire like ?
You could stick audible on an old android smartphone? Load an SD card up and away you go...
bought my old mother a sony mp3 player solely for audio books.i wasn't sure she would get used to it as it's quite fiddly so was hoping i'd get it thrown back at me - no chance, she loves it.
i have tons of audiobooks and she has similar tastes, thrillers, cops and robber type of thing so she has plenty of choice
should've also added that my sister bought her an ereader at the same time and she hates it 😆
Thanks folks.
I've ordered a Nexus 7 thinking that the screen should be big enough to make things easy to control without being unwieldy, and will buy him some books via Auidble.
