Considering getting a secondhand A3 diesel sport, anyone got one or had one?

I prefer "drivers" cars & currently have an old E36 M3. But with new job doing extra miles and need something with a bit more mpg but still with a little bit oomph.

Also thinking about 320d or 330d, but the A3 seems a decent alternative plus the hatchback is an attraction.

Any thoughts on best model?

Cheers

S

Great car mate has one and it's rather nice, essentially a posh Golf but it's rather nice not as nice as my Mk VI Golf though.

Used to have a A3 Sportback 2.0Tdi 170bhp. Absolutely loved it, nice bit of extra oomph in comparison to the standard 140bhp and still got 45mpg+. No problems getting 2 bikes + kit in the back and was sooooo comfortable on long drives with cruise control.

[Sobs quietly] I loved that car! [/Sobbing]

The wife has a 3 door A3 2.0 TDI SE, it's ok not really what you'd call a "drivers" car though unless you get the quattro. Front Wheel drive cars tend to be a bit vague. That's the only issue I have with Audi, the don't do rear wheel drive.

As does mine. I think it's pretty good. The build quality is like no other car I've been in/driven. Certainly better than the BMW's I've known. My sister has had this car, a 3 series and a 1 series in her high flying previous life, the A3 was her favourite to the point where she begs my wife to let her drive when they go out together.

Drives like a little go kart compared to my car, quick enough for fun, sharp steering. It is front wheel drive though, but then most cars are. I'd recommend them but they are expensive to buy and don't even start me on Audi servicing charges. Audi's are quite stiff suspension though so don't expect a hugely comfortable ride over long distances.

She got a S3! as a courtesy car when her car was in for a service. I had to test that car out to make sure it was safe for her. I had to test that car out a lot. Brilliant fun.
