The SO is considering an Audi A2 (1.4 TDI, I think) as a new vee-hicle.
I've always quite liked them so I'm easily persuaded.

Has anyone on here had one?
What's the general consensus?
Thanks very muchly.

Not had an A2, but have had two VAG cars with the same 1.4tdi block in, and it's a cracking engine, think the A2's has a little more power too (90bhp as opposed to 75bhp in the Polo's).

I like the look of A2's as well. Way ahead of their time.

from memory..

aluminium so expensive to fix if you ding it
light bodywork/heavy single wiper means the car sways when the wiper is on
stupidly economical but the most economical engine wasn't available in the UK

I've got one, had it for about 3 months. 2001 MY so the 75bhp variant. Seems a pretty solid little car, not heaps of room in the back with the seats down, need to take both wheels off to fit a 29er in there.

Worth checking out the A2 Owners Club website, they've got a good list of things to watch out for when buying and should give you an idea of what's good value.

There's actually loads of room in the back for adults - because of the sandwich floor the rear floor pan is about 100mm lower than the front so legs are more upright.

Had one, it was a sport model with 17in alloys. The car was great and mpg was brilliant. Sold it though as it had the most uncomfortable ride of any car I've ever experienced!!!

i always quite liked the styling of these, cute and dumpy. - but seems the masses did not not hence the more trad A1 styling..

if you like cute and dumpy - what about a Nissan Cube>?

ace massive side hinged (correct side for the UK - unlike MINI clubman) rear door...

We had an early petrol - seemed very well put together. We sold it once we had kids as it really wasn't big enough for young kids + push chair + kit for hols etc. Now they're a bit older and don't require so much gear it'd be nice to get another, the only thing being that we're in the country and the panels show dings really easily and, as mentioned ^^, the ride was a bit on the hard side...

Economy was excellent as were residuals - from memory we sold it for what we paid for it after 6 months of use and about 10,000 miles.
