Can't think why, but the thought suddenly came to me...

'What do you bring to STW?'

The honest answer from me... not a great deal. I don't offer great opinons, I rarely if ever enter debates. I mostly just talk about absolute nonsense, or myself.

I do love coming here though. I love reading what other people have got to say, hearing from a range of people, on a variety of subjects and then making another essentially pointless comment.

STW is great, ain't it. 😀

Oh yeah... What is it that you think you bring? Be honest now...

Absolutely bugger all! More of a reader than a poster. Like to think I can probably help on some bike related stuff, but other than that.........

Seriously?? I've had a lot of good advice from STW - some bike related, some more general. When possible, I like to reciprocate.

And stories - it's oft been said that some of the forum contributions are better quality than those in the mags. I love hearing about folks epic trips - and to submit my own for perusal too.

Nothing at all. I barely have anything in common with most of the people on here but weirdly it feels like home already I post on a couple of other sites, but this place always makes me laugh and that counts for loads on a dull college day.

Hmmm ... belated New Year's resolution overdue.

100% serious. See I post nowhere else, I said I'd never be part of an internet forum, but I really enjoy [s]am properly addicted to[/s] this place. I like to read about what people different from me are up to. If I can end up talking rubbish, all the better.

Practical-ness-ish. Common-sense-ish-ness. Does it for me.

What turns me off is the mentalish-ish-ness.

I'd like to think I bring some useful answers to bike questions and occasional amusing or tongue in cheek comments.

Next week, a follow on thread where everyone else tells us just how far off the mark we are with this self assessment.

As the forum is now, I only contribute when I'm at least 1% I'm sure I'm right about what I say.
I have to admit I don't really contribute a lot any more.

It's interesting, I think, that the people here who think they contribute the least are the ones I enjoy reading the most.

What do I bring? Apart from my unique wit and sparkling personality, I'm a geek and can fix your computer. God, that sounded much more impressive in my head.

PC ness and a general sense of fluffy left wing vegan stoner tolerant do goodiness...my high horse is a big hit on here just as it is in the real world.
Occasionally I bring wisdon to a thread but usually I am just armed with an opinion

erm, I don't really know why I type stuff on here. It is in the hope that there are nice like minded people that are interested in riding bikes I suppose. bikes are good. I can type some rubbish though, give it a few beeers...

i like to think i sometimes change the direction of a thread towards the silly/less serious. other than that i cant offer much actual biking advice or nuffink.

organising another sexy swinley party is something i'd like to do for when the sun comes out... hopefully that'll create few more real-life friendships

Someone described me as the forum Rohloff expert, or something like that, once. I wouldn't claim that myself, but I'll always try to help with Rohloff questions where I can.
I try to help with car mechanical problems as well, although I've more experience with trucks and buses.
I try to promote trailquesting, but no one's interested. 🙁
I would help with questions about veganism as an endurance athlete, but no one ever asks them.
I'm pleased the weekend photo challenge has taken off. It's nice to know a simple idea can inspire so many people to get out on their bikes and ride to different places.

Thanks for contributing so far. Particularly pleased that it's not turned into a slanging match.

I guess that a forum (or this one anyway) is actually just like real life. That if asked what I can bring to a friendship or a gathering I'd look at you blankly and just go 'err, I dunno'.

So what I really bring here is me.

I hope to be helpful when I can, amusing on occasions and challenging when I feel it appropriate. However I seem to have got the balance wrong recently.

From the forum I have taken: Help in renewing my enthusiasm for mountainbiking, lots of technical info, some thought provoking debates and some encounters with infuriating clowns. Met a bunch of folk I never would have done otherwise and ridden in places I wouldn't have without the forum.

Thanks

Kind of stalled at 89kg for now, got bored with the control so have slacked off a bit, not putting anything back on though so that's good! Back in the gym for the new year with the continued aim of getting below 85kg, we shall see 🙂

I;ve helped loads of people from here with route advise and maps and even lead some STW Northern Chapter rides. Doled out a bit of bike advise too.

In return, I've got a sh!tload of good mates, been guided on some rides that I would never have known about and shown places that I would never have considered riding, plus some frankly brilliant advise on Bikes.

I generally not bother with the chat forum though.

I don't know enough about bikes to offer advice.

So just end up making hilarious quips instead - although I've got a sneaking suspicion that I'm not as funny as I think. My wife just thinks I'm a geek for using a forum, and doesn't understand why I sit on my iPhone giggling to myself.

Usually, when I find a topic I can offer actual advice on, I'll pounce like a tiger...only to repeat what someone else has already said.

....sigh.

I'll see you stranded
you took me for a fool.
I'll have my revenge
cause I bring you nothing
nothing at all.

I bring you nothing
nothing at all
I bring you nothing
nothing
nothing at all
nothing
nothing at all.

I'll watch you suffer with no feelings
no feelings at all

and you'll see you desperate
you won't hear my call.
And he who laughs last owes you sweet nothing
nothing at all.

I bring you nothing
nothing at all

I bring you nothing
Nothing
nothing at all.

I was yours and you were mine

but you ran around and told me lies

you got big
big
big
big trouble.

I bring you nothing
I bring you nothing
I bring you nothing

I bring you nothing
I bring you nothing
I bring you nothing

I mostly post on the bike forum. It's mostly opinion or stories based on the bike-related experiences. I'm not an authority on any subject, but I'm happy to give advice about my local riding if anyone wants.

Posting is what keeps a forum worth reading. So the most important thing is to post something from time-to-time; it doesn't have to be world-shatteringly interesting.

Lavish use of the backspace key and the ability to type for ten minutes then decide not to hit send, an uncontrolled, beer-addled sense of humour and a decade of experience in the bike trade.
