I had arthroscopy last week for a cartilage tear. On the scale of having my collarbone pinned a couple of years ago, there is hardly any pain and after a day I was off the pain killers.
Now it just feels a little sore, a bit like when you have banged it.
So anyone else had this done and how long before you were back on the turbo trainer, then the bike?
2 or 3 weeks if i remember.
spin easy gears to start for a few rides.
I was back playing rugby inside a month for the same op its like everything else listen to your body and don't push too hard too soon
Instructions from surgeon
1st week - gentle walking & keep leg elevated
2nd week - plenty of walking
3rd week - easy cycling along road/canal (started 5 miles up to 20)
4th week - easy off road stuff
5th week - saw surgeon and he told to carry on normally
Changed from clipless to flats. As above listen to your body and don't push too soon (a month soon passes)
Mine ended up with bugger all cartlage left on one side. Instructions from surgeon were to let the swelling go a bit and by the time the holes had healed all was well for non load bearing exercise. Reckon I was up to 50/100 miles a week, mostly SS CX, in a week. Seems fine now, 3 years later
I did the 3 peaks cx 5 weeks after mine.... 🙂
A year later it feels better than it was.... 😕
Just had one in June- wrecked my season. consiously waited until 4 th week before doing any riding. Then rode to work 3 days a week (16 mile round trip)- end of 5th week did 60 mile road dride - back training at 6 week (albeit somewhat less fit than I expected) - didnt MTB until 7 weeks which caused a bit of swelling.
(post op swelling was bad for 3 weeks at least)
((Had prev arthroscopy due to squash injury, rushed back , had and have continual problems with that knee))
whats the rush in the grand scheme of things , just give it a month 🙂
