'Average' represents the very summit of my ambition. Though, to be honest, I prefer the word mediocre

I am taller than average and a thinner than average, I've also got all my own teeth and hair which is way above average.

I'm average in the group I ride out with and I ride a non average (make of) roadie and my mtbs are also non average too (although by current trends one of them is becoming "more" average)

So if you apply the law of averages I'm not quite "average"

In terms of bike riding ability and with a total novice at one end of the scale and top pro riders at the other end, I imagine the curve would be a normal distribution with most of us in a band a few % either side of the top of the curve.

So yes - average.

On a bike, I have officially risen to the dizzying heights of "competent".

TBH if we're talking about riding ability, the average is probably pretty low.

Some are born average, some achieve averageness, but somewhere in the middle are people who have averageness thrust upon them

Apparently we are - that's why I asked.

I'm just reading this book:

Which says that most Americans and Europeans rate themselves "above average" on a wide range of of measures.

It also says that this phenomenon is weaker in many asian countries and may not exist in Japan, and it puts forward the idea that this may be due to the influence of Buddhism.

^ The Lake Wobegon effect: "all the women are strong, all the men are good looking, and all the children are above average."

I am the very essence of above averageness. No really. I am the happy void between a C+ and a B-.

I got a first in my BSc, which puts me in the top 10% of university grads, so well above average there...

I'd say I'm an above average driver, with odd moments of brilliance and utter stupidity in equal measure.

Fitness - well below average.

BMI - well above average but coming down

bike skills - below average for an MTBer, but getting better...

..what else do you need to know?
