In the middle of washing up and the bloody boiler just stopped giving any hot water. Nothing at all from it and there seems to be no way to get the stupid thing to actually fire up. It had been working but then suddenly just refused. I thought that the whole point of combi boilers was that they were supposed to provide hot water on demand rather when they can be bothered.

Anyone got any ideas as to why it might be so reluctant to do its only job?

Utter pain in the arse

On mine it's either the the pilot light (obvious light), the pressure gone down (once a month), or the cold water pressure has changed and needs upping a bit on the intake (seasonal). And yes they are all rubbish.

Don't know what your problem is but ours is absolutely outstanding. Red hot water seconds after turning the tap on, extremely economical, quiet as a mouse. Provides hot water fast enough to run a thermostated shower at high enough pressure to hurt your bell end and that's good enough for me.

Never had a problem with mine, if you had boiler cover then it could have already been fixed 😉

Lots of "mine is great" type of comments on here but no naming of makes: be interested to know what are considered the good makes of combi boilers? Always thought the Worcester-Bosch models were considered good ❓

Sorry, I don't install, only service and repair. I work for British Gas, and as much as we get slated on here, we do a very good job, and at the moment, credit crunch and all that. We're not that expensive either.

Not a problem, I'm actually off the tools at them moment, doing a secondment as a technical service manager, It's been a culture shock going from 15 years of spannering, to becoming a manager and providing technical support to the lads

All I seem to hear from friends is that the combi has packed up again, taken 5 minutes to diagnose and hundreds of pounds to fix. Personally I'd only get one put in if I was about to sell my house and hope to God that it sold before it packed up, in the current climate that would be 6 months approx. That's probably wishful thinking!

Why should we have to pay for boiler cover. If the bl@@dy things were built properly and designed properly they should just work. Is that to much to ask! Utter sh!te most of them.

is the pilot light still alight? re-light it and it should be ok... put the hot water tap on for about half a min , then hold the restart button down for about 20 secs after the pilot light kicks in and it should stay on.. works for me 🙂

Worcester-Bosch. 5 years of perfect service. Never even been touched by an engineer!

Cue boiler breakdown tomorrow morning during shower 😀

My combi boiler is a Worcester and it is now over 18 years old and so far has only had a heat exchanger or somat like that changed... the unit is serviced each year by BG... I do keep an eye on the input pressure tho' and also the radiator / hot water control as this is a dial that can be easily adjusted by knocking..

Worcester here. It's great, if I hadn't told you that. Only a little thing too, sits very quietly in the cupboard doing it's job.

I just wish I'd found a wife that does that same.

Worcester here. Pretty reliable. Had a few issues with leaky pipes etc but it is over ten years old.

Another Worcester here.
We've just had it serviced and the chap said run the water full on, then when the hot starts coming through turn the tap to decrease the flow. That should do the trick.
