Yes, that's right, I shall be braving a day trip to the Grim Northern Wastelands. It's OK, before you get worried, I've had my vaccinations. 🙂

So, where's good for lunch in Preston? Not too far from the train station, and ideally a nice pub that does good food and beer. (free wifi a bonus, as it's a work trip 🙁 )

TIA!

I'm sure Binners can direct you to the nearest Greggs.

Glad you've had your jabs - I'm going to Preston this afternoon and don't want to catch any Southern Rabies or owt!
Can't help with Lunch spots though I'm afraid. (Spar distribution centre canteen if I've got time)!

Heathcotes Brasseries on Winckley Square is nice for lunch, and there's a good little bistro-type place called Moka on Fishergate - both 2 mins from train stations. But on the whole, Preston is dire for dining.

Baluga is passable, but a 15 min walk, and if you're going that far you might as well go to Stratos on Avenham Street - quite s****y...

Other than that, Hartley's is an OK pub just off Fishergate...

Duk is actually shut at the moment but the sister restaurant Pond is open - both the same menu although Duk is nicer inside (its the original one)

" Grim Northern Wastelands " is about right. Currently looking for another job far, far away from here.

The area around Winckley Square is actually quite nice. Avenham Park used to be nice but looked like a war zone after the guild festival. As for the rest of Preston..... nuke it from space, it's the only way to be sure.

trailofdestruction - live in Lancaster and commute? Much nicer IMO and closer to the Lakes.

Yeah better for the Lakes obviously. Kendal has a great climbing wall and the Brewery for gigs etc, couple of nice restaurants. Rubbish pubs though in general.

TBH, eating out in Kendal is pretty poor IMHO
The restaurant in the Brewery is OK if its busy, but that isn't very often.

BUT there is an excellent chippy and a couple of OK pubs on the outskirts.

Unfortunately all the really good pubs are out of town in the beautiful surrounding countryside! Best pub that's in town is probably the continental, proper beer and wine and apparently the food is pretty good!

How long you up for flashy?

Meh. Grew up in the Lakes, I'd like to live somewhere warmer if it's all the same. Anyone got any jobs going in the south of France ?

In the meantime, the best burritos in town can be found at Cocos

Crispo, only a day trip. Client meeting nearby, so looking for a nice lunch spot between trains/meeting.

Another vote for The Conti - great beer and food, and not far from the station.

Just missed you by about 4 months Flash. I'd have hung around with a telephoto lens if I'd known.

I ate at Duk once, it was absolutely grim. Really properly disgusting, couldn't eat it.
