If so, how's the browsing speed?

Yes. I used it in Bluetooth mode for a while and it is okay, not bad.

Will be trying wifi this weekend in all likelihood.

I am off to the airport this afternoon. I might (if I am very bored) try a comparison between 3G via dongle and via tethering.

Speedtest.net?

Just jailbreak it and then you can set up tethering for free

Thanks everyone.

The plan is to use the iPhone 4 as the internet connection for an iMac (or
laptop), and thus be able to do away with a landline/broadband. I'm looking at the Three network which has unlimited data (including tethered data) on their The One package. I'll think again if it'll be like the old days of dial-up; but could be a winner if browsing speeds are good.

I'm on 3

I'll try and test it this weekend

Having said that 3G signal to my house is pretty poor (generally fine when out and about). Probably worth borrowing a dongle or something if you can first to see how usable the 3G signal is at your house

yes, connect through bluetooth to macbook pro and it works very nicely indeed thank you. I don't struggle for coverage anywhere that I've tried to date.
