I have put this on a wanted and but just wanted to give it as much exposure as possible.

After either a Navara Double, Hilux or a Ford Ranger – have pennies ready to spend so if anyone has anything on the market or potentially going on the market let me know

I would keep away from a navara they seem to have an issue with the chassis on the older models. I have seen pictures of a friends Navara chassis cracked into 2 parts. We recently bought an old pickup with an L200 (15 yrs old ) with the crew cab and to be honest its been the most reliable vehicle we have had in a while even the radio burst into life last week.

Sorted by Nissan on anything newer than about 2008, I think.

Just been through the exact same process, get the last of the Mazda built Ford Rangers, for that you'll get a very nice low mileage Thunder or Wildtrack for that sort of money. We picked up a 2 owner Thunder with every option, low miles for under your budget.

Super reliable, all the toys. Only thing to watch out for is the gearbox jumping out of 5th under load and out of 1st on overrun.

THAT GMC is exactly what I need in my life.

chances are slim though mind - damn but watching Jay Leno's video on youtube on his own makes me happy for now.

Got a 2004 silver/ grey ranger double cab xlt with 100k on it for sale at the end of the summer. Been a great truck. Mazda built. The ac rad has a leak but fixable. Everything else is good, a few dings on the panels but it’s tidy enough. Good load liner, alloys, leccy Windows. Don’t really want to get rid of it but also don’t want three vehicles on my drive.

I had one of the last mk3 Ranger Thunders.

Brilliant drift rig in the wet, nippy for what it was. Towed well in the dry but with no traction control or abs it wasn’t as much fun towing in the wet. Great for an all round work/family/play pickup.

Got shut of it as the dual mass flywheel was on its way out which with a clutch and a service meant new truck time.

8.5k will get you something nice, personally I’d go for a Ranger with your budget.
