We will be in touch
off there tomorrow and staying overnight with mrs expunk. plan to just turn up, look for a b'n'b and go from there. but i hear parkings a problem.
any suggestions of areas to go for? any recommendations for a b'n'b in the centre?
an option would be to use the fire station for parking (on clifford st i think), as long as theres a b'n'b close by?
never been there before so any advice welcome 🙂
thanks
Hmm. Doesn't sound like the best approach to be honest. Parking's not that easy in the centre unless you're happy to pay quite a bit on a pay and display, and you'll need to be there early or late in the day to get a space. Can't imagine the fire station would be impressed with you parking outside. The car park at the rear of the station on Leeman Road might do you, but I can't think of many B&Bs close by. And you'll have a sod of a time finding one with a vacancy I suspect - you might get a twin with no en-suite if you're lucky, but the decent places book up quickly, well in advance, and generally operate a 2 night minimum stay too.
I haven't helped you much there have I, other that possibly saving you a day of frustration.
im allowed to use any fire station in the country dood, thats why im considering it 🙂
Contact your colleagues at said fire station, discuss use of said parking spot and enter discussion about decent local digs?
Parking was atrocious at both the B+B's I've stayed in in york, the best western hotel just outside the walls wasn't too bad price wise or parking wise.
I know York pretty well as i cover it as an engineer, i cannot think of any parking at the Clifford St (Central fire station) I think they even reverse the engines in as there is so little space, there may be a little bit around the back (google map street view "peckitt st")but i think it is shared with the court.
There is the Castle car park opposite though.
There are plenty of B&B's and hotels on Tadcaster Rd, within 10 mins walk of the city centre.
there is a small carpark to the rear of the fire station you get to it round the side ive parked before dave just take the id card with you as you have to prove your in the job 😉
Sent you a pm Dave.
Does it have to be York?? Although I lived there for over 20 years, I would say have a look further North at some of the villages..
The Durham Ox in Crayke is an awesome pub, that has B & B, or the Forresters Arms in Kilburn.
Or The Rose and Crown in Sutton on the Forrest is lovley.. as too is the New inn in Huby..
Even Easingwold is worth a punt.
Thirsk too, is another nice little town with great places to eat, and a good nightlife scene..
aye, got to be york this time i reckon mate. heard good things about it so gonna give it a try. ill look your suggestions up tho and mebbes another time. ive certainly heard of the durham ox before somewhere.
pacemaker, thanks for the heads up on tadcaster rd, altho looking at google maps it seems a fair way away from where we're hoping to park. im hoping to find something nearer, altho may be disappointed 🙂
thanks for the info on the station carpark mick. think thatll be our first stop 🙂
martin, mailed you back.
try ramada encore stayed there last month ver nice and modern £50 for a room a night including continental breakfast, car park over the road £10 for 24 hours
