I'm heading there by train tomorrow and am staying at the Premier Inn in Clifton Park Avenue. I'm told I can gt the park and ride bus out there. Any ideas where I get this from, bus number / destination and stuff?

You want the bus heading to Rawcliffe Bar P&R but need to get off before then.
tummons must know
It's only a half hour walk from the shambles apparently.
We walked to the railway musuem from the Jorvik with two small kids 3 years ago, so it'd be doable unless you're covered in luggage/it's chucking down.
If you have the time, you could find your way to the river then walk down by the side of it into the centre - not done it myself but I believe it is doable.
Come out the station and turn left. Go down the road, over the crossing at the traffic lights (keeping the bar walls to your right) and then follow the path under the bar walls, keeping left and going over Lendal Bridge. On the far side of the bridge is the P&R bus stop - can't miss it. Its just past the entrance to the museum gardens. Once on the bus it'll head down Bootham and out of York. When you go through Clifton Green (easy to spot - triangular 'park' on the left hand side couple of minutes down Bootham), after that you want to keep an eye open for Clifton Park Rugby/Cricket club on the left (about 300m from Clifton Green). Press the stop button and the bus will drop you off outside the Premier Inn/Dormouse pub which is next door.
If you wanted to walk along the river (it is doable if you're travelling light) then theres an exit to York station waaaay down at the end of platform 3 (I think). That'll spit you out into a snicket between Leeman Road and the river. Turn left in the snicket and down to the river by Scarborough Bridge, cross over Scarborough Bridge to the other side and head upstream to the next bridge (Clifton Bridge). Join the road here and head down into Clifton Green, left at the lights and about 10 minutes walk out of town is the hotel.
come on dave , how long did you live in york for??
you want the bus that runs the rawcliffe Bar route , but you dont need to walk all the way to the museum gardens there is a bus stop for that route right next to the stations , the rest of dave`s info about where to get off is correct!!
you can see the stops on this link , http://www.itravelyork.info/park-and-ride/park-and-ride-sites/rawcliffe-bar
Got to admit, I normally walk it Chris if I'm getting off at the station and going to either set of parents 😉
