I have one, Sigma 18-50 f2.8 EX. Its the second one I have had as the first was not very good. I took it back to Jacobs and we did a test on it. The first was not good at f2.8 but the other was much better. hey let me swap so I ended up with a "good" one. They said they couldn't really tell but the difference was clear to me.

Probably best to buy from a shop then me thinks rather than on line.

They did admit later that they had had similar problems with Sigma lenses. Basically poor quality control.

Focusing is efficient (on my one) and its fine throughout the apperture range but quality drops off at f2.8.

Yours for 200 delivered. mint. boxed (probaly be able to find it), and with the bag thing for it.

Don't know what mount you've got but here's a review for the alpha mount:

It is constant 2.8 throughout the zoom but quality IMO whilst OK at 2.8 improves as you stop the apperture down. Most lenses would do this though, f5.6 or 8 being best quality region. I have a 3ft x 2 ft photo on my kitchen wall I too with it and cropped so its pretty decent.

Its Nikon fit is all I know. with hood bag and probably box too.

Will get it out later to look into the HSM and Macro stuff.

I used it for wedding photography (part time stuff to fund my mountain bike habit) doing 3 or 4 a year

my wedding web site, so OK I never said I was a web gurru...

and this was my main lens for 2 years until I sold my F2.8 80-200 monster Nikon lens and bought an 18-200 VR lens. That kind of took over the lot but I kept the 18-50 in case the 18-200 broke.

fontmoss - you may also need to say which mount you need. If you did sorry. Need HSM - I guessing Nikon d40 / d60?

I have a Sigma 17-35 2.8-4 HSM Nikon mount - doesn't do the top end that you want but I'd let it go at a price that would leave you some change for another lens in that range. Be quick if you want it 'cos if I don't get an offer soon I can PX it on the next lens I want and get £85 off that lens.

Email in profile or zero seven nine eight four 111 820 on the mobile

Edit turns out email not in profile - probably better to text anyway.

I have one on a canon mount - I like it alot! really nice colour, nice and sharp, and obviously f2.8 throughout the zoom range. nice weight, feels very balanced on the front of a 10d. the hood is very handy at reducing flare and increasing contrast on sunny days. pics sharp enough at 2.8 and very good once stepped down a touch - and f2.8 lets you get some pics you might not otherwise get. really like it. only downside to mine, being non HSM is that the focus is a bit slow and noisy!

I got one for christmas. Ttypically sigma feel to it, nice and solid. Not taken a huge amount of pictures with it yet but it's certainly quite quick and takes very good shots in the mid range.
