OK, I know it might be a longshot on STW but I'm looking for some sympathy, or at least someone to be nice to me 🙂

I've had a chest infection for the last 7 weeks and as a result I haven't been out on my trusty steed for 7 whole weeks 😥 I'm bored, fed up, annoying Mr Nich and the little Nich's and getting fat(ter). AND I have missed the heatwave, the dry trails, beewootiful blue skies and everyone I mention this to says "Oh don't worry, there's always next year". Next year? Next year? It's gonna be forever until the sun shines and the trails dry up again. Isn't it?

So the question is, or rather, questions are:
1) Will my bike still recognise me?
2) Will I have lost all my fitness? (Used to ride 3x per week and run 1x)
3) How can I prevent getting these bugs in the first place?
4) What good cycling books can I read to pass the time?

Thank you people of STW.

There's obviously a lot of sympathy in here tonight!

1) The bike will forgive you don't worry
2) I doubt you'll have lost much fitness, just take it steady for a while when you get back out there. Chest infections are a bugger to clear but once your feeling a bit better biking is definitely a good way to kick it.
3) Eat healthy, stick with the exercise. Bugs are bugs, you will get them then they'll go. Winter sucks.
4) no idea on bike books. We have loads but Ive not read any of them yet. Ask again in January and I'll tell you then.

Oh and WTFU 😉

Hi,
Just getting over a crap cold and cough here too. We live at 1200ft on the Horsshoe Pass in North Wales and its bloody cold at the moment. So to answere your questions:

1) Will my bike still recognise me? Yes just don't go and buy an new one while you are sat on the tinternet!
2) Will I have lost all my fitness? (Used to ride 3x per week and run 1x) Not all but build it up slowly when you get back on the bike.
3) How can I prevent getting these bugs in the first place? You can't, Sorry!
4) What good cycling books can I read to pass the time? Hmm have you seen this yet:

Hope that helps, get well soon!

No it won't, Khani; it won't.

Don't lie to them. All that lies ahead is months of doom, despair and despondancy. Crap weather, freezing cold and got to spend loads of money on Christmas just to pretend to have a good time. 🙁

It's better to confront the Truth, I always think.

Don't read about cycling, if you can't do it atm. Will just make you more frustrated.

Read about something else instead, something you've not previously considered interesting maybe. You never know could surprise yourself, learn new stuffs and that.

Similar position here, though my lack of ride time is due to work. Winter is the new Summer for me!
Get well soon, though be patient as pneumonia can develop from exercising while your chest is crook.

Elf I take it that something is missing in your life right now !

On the brighter side, while everyone else is moaning about the cold, crappy weather you'll be smiling as you're finally able to get out on your bike again 🙂

Oh sweet STWers, for a moment there last night I thought only Emma was gonna come to my rescue. Thanks for telling me to WTFU, I must have sounded like I was on a man-flu whine for a second there 😯

Bob, hope you feel better soon too and thanks for the book recommendation. Looks interesting.

Thanks Elf for the girl 😆 - that has been me!!!!! Road cycling? Can I read about that instead? 😉

And Mogrim you make a very good point. I'll be an unfit, fat, maniacally grinning loon, hooning around on completely flat trails but I won't care and I'll be SMIIIIIILING!

No Grantway, you don't. I don't know where you live but if I find out I'll be sure to summon forth a phlegm-ball in your direction 🙂 I've been practising.

Oh, and Khani, nice cake. Another piece please. Burp.

Off to do some internet shopping...
