Hi all,

Heading to Menorca tomorrow with a mate, super short trip, just there til Friday.
Done a bit of research but not really got anything planned, so just wondering if anyone has any "must-dos" or places you'd recommend?

Not booked any accommodation (either hostel or beach), but think we'll spend the first night in Mahon, and second night in/around Ciutadella.

Think we'll try and get down to Santandria for a bit, sounds pretty cool.

Ta, Duane.

Im currently posting from calen forcat (not the best place to stay) and I'm off home tomorrow so I may see you at the airport 😉
Ciutadella harbour is pretty nice, although fortnell is nicer IMO, I went on the glass bottom boat at Mahon today and that was a nice way to learn about the area, and there are some nice places within walking distance from there, also check out the big boat that moored there today if it's still around, massive & they said it was owned by some oil tycoon, its bigger than a ferry!
There are also some beautiful beaches if you have the time to look, we hired a car for €68 for a day to explore, well worth it, have fun!

Cheers.

Fornells, location of the King of Spain's favourite restautant!

Oh, and if you end up in the decidedly 60's 70's timeshare town of Cala N Porter, which is where the Brits tend to end up (actually, to be fair the bay/beach is a nice ptcturesque cove) please do have lunch at El Pulpo, and post up a pic. It's nothing special, save everyone Iknow who ever went to Menorca, has ended up there, and so it's just something "that should be done!".

Try the lobster stew - it's the Menorcan National Dish apparently and absolutely wonderful 🙂

Cuitadella is nice but there are lots of little places to look at/visit. Food can range from 'mleh' to 'wow!'

Thanks for the replies.

We're not planning on hiring a car, hence being limited somewhat with where we can go (don't mind getting a bus etc).

I know it's not really the right kind of island, but anyone seen jetski hire anywhere? Any recommendations for half decent bars to grab a couple drinks from? Nice places to watch the sunset?

We went a few weeks ago and stayed in Cala Torret. Nice little fishing village with no hotels, few English. The harbour has a slipway which all the local divers use, and there is a brilliant cafe bar (cafe paupa) right on the slipway which serves great food/drink/coffee all day late into the early hours - we sat there for hours just watching the boats come in and out.

Club Nautica Tapas bar in Binibeca is fantastic if you can find it. Score many brownie points buying a gift at Jaime Mascaro's factory outlet.

joolsburger - I think that's the place I'm talking about too! Next to the diving shop?

Could be, tiny place has about 20 seats outside and does the best fried baby squid in the world!

I love Menorca, jools that's my recommendation too. I like to stay in Cala Galdana, very quiet though.

I spent 2 weeks in Cala en bosch last July, its quite a quiet island but still had a good time. As already said Ciutadella is worth a look around.

I'd just spent 6 weeks off the bike with a fractured elbow when i went so when i spotted some hire bikes i couldn't resist, and it was a good way to have a look around. Ended up cycling from where i was staying over to the otherside of the island.

This was next to the lighthouse at Punta Nati

I really like the place and have been four times now but food is not their strong suit IMO. I've had a lot of Urrgh! Quite a bit of mleh and the odd 'ok'.

Best food so far was some Tapas at a little cafe in Es Migjom Gran. That was nice. And they did provide Lobster stew which was probably the best part of it. The cafe was awesome though, fantastic, friendly locals, great wine, some guy who seemed to be the designated driver for the evening gave us a lift home and the owner of the cafe gave us his personal number in case we wanted to come back so he could prepare things.

I had a fortnight in Calan Forcat in 2005. I was ready to come home after 10 days.
