For me ond my wifes wedding anniverary I am taking us to Berlin. I always wanted to go to Germany and it looks very nice. We will be staying in the city centre for 4 days so what should we go and see?

And where can I find a bike shop for bringing back some nice bike goodies.....

I'd recommend a walking tour, appreciated so much more of the city that way. Nightlife I'd head to the old jewish quarter, try Clarchens ballroom for a bite and head to the artist squat after. Stick your head in the Radisson hotel if you pass by to see the humongous fish tank. So many things to do though.

Zed, http:
You must go here,

//www.viator.com/tours/Berlin/Sachsenhausen-Concentration-Camp-Memorial-Walking-Tour/d488-3817CAMP?pref=02&aid=g1230

Go by train from the city centre. Its a harrowing, unforgetable day out. I visited the camp in the late 1980's and was shown around by one of the ex inmates. I remember that he could name some of the SS guards in the pictures that were on the walls. He told us the story that one of the guards was caught living in Berlin in 1983.

Great view from the top of the TV tower in Alexanderplatz. Then take a gentle but entertaining and informative bike tour with these guys which starts from the foot of the tower.

yes, those are machine gun bullet holes..

A great city to wander around, interesting mix of old and new and a lot of bizarre eastern bloc architecture.

Yup, I loved it.

Mind you that was over 20 years ago. And I stayed in East Berlin. I only flew into West Berlin - and then immediately crossed the border into East Berlin.

My Grandfathr went to Berlin, and all he brought back was an empty bomb bay.

One of my favourite cities in the world. Would live there in a flash if the right job came up.

Was there last week. I love it. Thinking about moving there one day. Was trying to see if there was any good trails from the plane. There are some strange things in the pathology museum. The russian war memorial in treptower park is pretty special. But best of all club mate(fizzy drink with a lot of caffein, and lovely beer.

I don't "do" cities as a rule, but Berlin was fascinating. As said above, head to the Jewish quarter for food, take in a Ballet at the opera house (if poss.) and just be prepared to walk around gawping a lot.

Awesome city although my memories are hazy. Went there for a stag do and was awake for most of the weekend. A club called Rosies stands out and also a day club that seemed to be run by gypsies. Also relaxing on the grass outside the Reichstag. I should go back and see it properly.

It's right by the Brandenburg Gate. The Jewish Museum is worth a visit I've never seen anything to compare with the sculpture/installation Fallen Leaves, the most moving piece of art or monument I've ever seen.

Went to Berlin on a stag do just over a year ago, we did the usual Checkpoint Charlie, Brandenburg Gate etc, and also went round the Topography of Terror, bit 'dark' but an eye opener http://www.cityscouter.com/travelguides/berlin/Topography-of-Terror.html

I found berlin to be ace. Stayed with a friend who was living in a soviet block of flats / semi squat thing.... didn't find the west side of things to be as interesting, but the east was very very interesting. Make sure you go and see the gestapo headquarters - really quite moving.

Brandenberg gate is quite good as well, go there at sunset for backlit prettyness...

One of the best things you can do in Berlin is to have breakfast in the Käfer cafe on the roof of the Reichstag. Breakfast is a big deal in Germany and as a tourist this has to be one of the best places to go. It's best to book in advance which you can do by emailing them on kaeferreservierung.berlin@feinkost-kaefer.de. Make sure to ask for a window seat. Not only do you get to jump the seriously long queues to get into the Reichstag (the cafe entrance is on the right corner of the building as you look at it from the front and it isn't signposted, just go up the little disabled ramp and there's a security checkpoint where you'll be searched and just tell them you've booked a table), but the food is great and the views pretty amazing too. After breakfast you can spend some time in the Reichstag and then you're in the perfect place for a day of sightseeing.

As someone else mentioned I'd definitely recommend the walking tours. I've been with Berlin Walks a couple of times and the guides have been excellent. They take most of the day but cover most of the sights.

The story of Berlin museum is really good,as said one of the evening walking tours is superb. Love it and take school kids there every two years. Holocaust museum is also very good,if you are a bit arty.
