Cool.
Is that misquote intentional, btw?
I always liked the elements of that in this book;

The Excession is what the Culture's social scientists describe as an Outside Context Problem, one which a society cannot foresee and is often fatal. A metaphor to help explain this phrase is that of a successful aboriginal culture suddenly finding ocean-going vessels on its shores for the first time.

Talking of simple creatures I often wonder what our cat thinks about stuff we take for granted.
Her reaction to things with screens - tv, computer, iPad etc - is fascinating she seems to think it is a portal onto a real world and if there are any animals running across the screen she turns her head to follow them off to the side and looks round the back to see where they've gone.
Beyond magic it's simply incomprehensible but she still finds it irresistible

I hope so. Then all those hours of shooting people that sound like 10 year old kids in the fact (in games for our monitoring overlords) won't have been wasted.
