Hi

I need a diagnosis on a problem with my 10 year old fiesta.

Having not driven it for two weeks I took it out on Saturday and within the first couple of minutes it just cut out while i was doing about 50 and wouldnt start for the next 2 minutes. I put this down to the fact that it hadnt been used and drove another 60 odd miles with no problems.

Took it out again today and within the first couple of miles it cut out twice, driving it it feels unresponsive, when i put my foot down the power is there but there is a delay a bit like driving a diesel, i drove the 8 miles home at low revs and had no problems. Also i think my MPG is way down but its hard to tell.

Any ideas what it could be and how expensive it will be to fix

Cheers
Steve

Does the emu light come on? If so can you read the code?

Also if this was my corsa i would be cleaning the maf again, its the air intake measure and when it goes it effects the fuel air mix, so low power and rubbish pick up when you floor it. Makes the emu warning light come on tho as the engine goes to limp home mode.

When it stops you need to diagnose there and then. Pull a fuel line off and check for petrol. Take a spark plug with you and pull HT lead off one of the plugs and insert your spare. Earth plug to block and crank. Is there a spark?
That's how we used to do it!
DTCs,EMUs,ECUs Bahhhh!!

I'd do it the other way around though - I wouldn't fancy checking the spark if you've just sloshed some unleaded around the place

Just a thought 🙂
