My mum lived in Birkenhead with her family, and other family members lived in various places in and around Liverpool.
JY: I'm no longer going to respond to anything you have to say on the forum, as it's now clear you're just spoiling for an argument.
As I've now said several times; email if you really feel the need to discuss anything. Otherwise please be quiet and don't bother me again. For makes benefit of all other forum users. Thanks.
tranmere your second team then? haha
Otherwise please be quiet and don't bother me again.
Do you think you could do me a favour elfin? It actually bothers me that you can't refer to Man Utd with any level of civility, you only seem to want to provoke a reaction. Sir Alex has a name and Man Utd will suffice for the team name. Otherwise please be quiet and don't bother [s]me[/s] us again on Man Utd threads. 😉
Funnily enough, I understand my granddad went to Tranmere games. 🙂
None of them could stand Everton though. That much I know. 😆
I'm just back from the match. What a game. Beaten 3-2 but we can still hold our heads high. United fans on the train were all sighing with relief and have concerns as to how things are looking at Old Trafford. Victims of their own success. Still, what a club they have been. We have a very long way to go before we can even stand shoulder to shoulder with them.
Kompany. I've not seen it on TV and missed it on the big screen at the game (I think they showed it at half time). What was he sent off for? It looked like a standard tackle from our angle.
A fantastic game. The atmosphere in the ground was immense. I doubt even the most biased of United fans could honestly say the ref. had a good game although we got a way with one or two decisions as well.
Wayne Rooney doesn't do himself any favours in popularity away from United.
It was sad to see a portion of out fans trying to get "Whose that...." going but reassuring that everybody else boo'ed it down.
Weired really.Beaten by United but still happy. I'm normally unbearable for days after a losing derby (and longer still after a wining derby). What a fantastic game and thank you Mancini for the goalie deciosion, if only for the comedy effect of 30 odd thousand City fans screaming "Run you F***er, RUN!!!" :-).
Now then, Liverpool on Wednesday. I love being a Blue.
Silly Tedious Little Man from London, give it a sodding rest, would you?
Now remove the rest of my name from that, whoever you are. No need for that. Bang out of order.
As before; problem with me personally = email me. Thanks. I'm getting a bit sick of cowardly posters on here who haven't the guts to even email me with their issues. Don't use the forum for personal abuse.
You have email
Kompany. I've not seen it on TV and missed it on the big screen at the game (I think they showed it at half time). What was he sent off for? It looked like a standard tackle from our angle.
He went in feet first. Both feet were off the ground but not by the time he tackled Nani (although all studs were still showing). Nani rode the tackle and didn't complain. The fact that both feet were off the ground was pointed out to the ref by Rooney (although he may well have been able to work this out for himself). Put simply he gave the ref the opportunity to send him off and paid the price for it. 'Expert' opinion on TV and radio seems to be that in the current climate by the letter of the law it should have been red but that it was 'harsh' to send him off. That seems to me to be the ex-players complaining about the current rules and interpretation of them. I have some sympathy with that.
I don't think there was any malice in Kompany's challenge - he was sent off for what he could have done to Nani's leg if he'd connected with it. In fact I don't think there was a great deal of malice in any of the challenges, not even Micah's 'Welcome Back' to Scholesy.
For a derby played at pace and with commitment, I think the ref got most thing's right and distributed his mistakes evenly. We should, for example, have had at least one more definite penalty.
I,m a united fan and there is no way he should have been sent off. Clean tackle. Great timing
liverpool v man utd in round 4.
it's the tie the whole of southern england were dreaming of
bit harsh on utd though, they usually get a bye against villa in round 4
Sweeeeeet. 😆

Anyway interesting draw ...sure the mods will be busy that day

He'll be at the match, won't he?
ohhh yes, loving this draw & looking on Facebook my manc friends are not 🙂
as always, a big game, cup game adds an extra edge as well
Bloody knew it! 😆
Why coodunt we get Watford or Stevenage or someone?
Still, the draw means there could be a few lower league teams in with a chance of progressing quite far, look:
Brighton or Wrexham v Newcastle
Sunderland v Middlesbrough
Dagenham & Redbridge v Southampton
Hull City v Crawley
MK Dons or QPR v Chelsea
West Brom v Norwich
Blackpool v Sheffield Wednesday
Arsenal or Leeds v Aston Villa
Stevenage v Notts County
Watford v Tottenham
Liverpool v Manchester United
Derby v Stoke City
Everton v Fulham
Macclesfield or Bolton v Swansea
Sheffield United v Birmingham or Wolves
Nottingham Forest or Leicester v Swindon
Oh look. Dondon's found a YouTube video.
Now now DD; don't diminonish other people's enjoyment of the forum.... 😀
I was at that the replay DS Wrexham 4 Newcastle 1 Happy Days 😀
tm, Townsend was a legend wasn't he.
Irish granny 🙂
liking ds's vid.
those were the days when toon fans didn't think they were actually real madrid.
all 14,000 of them.
tm, Townsend was a legend wasn't he.
fantastic player. jack charlton idolised him appparently. you've got to wonder at the england selectors, let townsend go but call up carlton palmer 🙄
Oh look. Dondon's found a YouTube video.
And learnded how to post it.
I didn't go. 🙁 Mate went to Newcastle and said it was possibly the scariest thing he'd ever experienced.
A great time for the mighty Wrexham.

did you put the match program in the trophy cabinet? infact do you even have one? 😉
Din't Wrecsham beat Manure sorry Manchester United in an FA Cup game a good few years back?
No, it was Arsenal!
🙂
jack charlton idolised him appparently
Indeed. How the bejeesus they got to a WC QF...but they wouldn't have without Townsend. And he got to captain them four years later for the revenge over the Italians. Happy days. Unlike the 02 debacle in the Far East. 😆
No, it was Arsenal!
The great and rather colourful Mickey Thomas.
Unlike the 02 debacle in the Far East.
Was that when a certain Footballing Legend insulted the RoI manager Mick McCarthy and got sent home in disgrace, thus letting his team-mates and his country down?
Indeed. How the bejeesus they got to a WC QF...but they wouldn't have without Townsend.
yup, at italia 90, charlton also played mcgrath (god) in centre mid, that's some pairing. i don't think there's any mystery that they got to the qf's.

LFC trophy cabinet hasn't seen any recent activity for a while Tim?
Dennis Smith who was our manager at the time was on the 3 man panel for the Suarez hearing, small world 😉
infact do you even have one?
Yes, and it even has a few trophies.
I've just watched a recording of the match. It was as good on TV, better even, than it was at the ground.
Vincent Kompany obviously knows better. It was always going to be a teeth sucking moment after he's gone in like that. Applause to Nani for staying up and not playing it up but we can't complain. Those type of tackles are banned for a reason.
The ref;s decisions seem to be more balanced on veiwing it on TV. Still some corker bad decisions though.
I'm looking forward to United v Liverpool on TV but really looking forward to going to the match on Wednesday. I think we've got tickets for Anfield as well.
Junky. I emailed having been invited to do so, the same as you. I wouldn't bother again. It's more of the same juvenile tripe.
I've got my very own Internet Stalker! How exciting! 😀
DD; don't be down on Wrecsham. 🙁
DD; don't be down on Wrecsham.
Stop dragging me into it. 😡
I was only taking the mick out of dondon.

You invited me to email you so I did. It was a lot less than exciting 🙂
Bored of you on the Internet as well now.

Well, if you want to find out what happened.....

It was emotional.
Don't worry DS. He hits hardest at those he cares for the most.
I've come across this type before.
Oh bugger off you fleckers.
I was only taking the mick out of dondon.
Yeah well don't; it's not nice, is it? 🙁
As well as Liverpool/Man U, there's also the prospect of Sunderland V Middlesborough, and probably QPR v Chelsea.
dondon, if I upset you, and you're feeling really down about it, then I think the best thing is to email me 😀
I think it's the best thing.
(Is quietly pleased)
🙂
Jaysus, would you look at the state of Shearer's suit. 😐
It's not good, is it? 😐
Hansen dapper as always though.
'Flat back nine' 😆
'Flat back nine'
Yep, I caught that. 😆
'Parked the bus'
'And it's a red London bus' - Lawro. 😀
Spuds equal on points with Sc...United, and only 3 points off the top! 😯
Citeh are formidable though, no question. Mancini moaning about his squad???
Even without a natural leader on't pitch, they are still ruthless professionals.
Second half of season will be inertesting. Liverpool, Arse and Cheatski for the 4th place, that should be an intense battle. Liverpool have both teams at home too. So two proper battles with the top 3 playing for the title as well.
Liverpool really need some silverware though, even a League cup will be sumat.

Jaysus, would you look at the state of Shearer's suit
^^ This 😯
Elf - whaddya think of Glen Johnson's tackle then?
Not sure Mancini was trying to get Johnson in trouble, more just some consitency - ie losing a player for 80mins & 4 matches due to one 'tackle' & was the Johnson challenge even a free kick?!
Lets address the most important issues here: Has Alan Shearer worn that suit for a bet, or what? Or had he got the dates wrong for 'dress like a pimp on telly' day?
re. Shearer's suit. It looked half finished to me, like the tailor was still sewing it together.
Whatever the reason, bloody awful. A new fashion low for sports broadcasters, and that's saying something!
APF
Binners - surely as Utd fan there could be nothing worse than watching Liverpool/ Citeh on telly? (I include shearers suit in that...)
I spend the whole time thinking how the rules of the game could be tweaked, so that somehow they could both lose
Johnson's tackle should have been a sending off imo:
If Lescott's foot had been 6" further forward he'd have ended up with a broken ankle. Two footed, off the ground and definitely dangerous.

Based on the video +1.
More importantly any video of this suit?
Its a straight red, that. No question. If Kompany's was - which I thought was harsh. Johnsons was worse.
aye and it was far worse than Kompany's tackle* ..thankfully I did stuff at half time and switched off when the game had finished so I missed the suit
I think mancini was moaning about the lack of consistency but the radio played the argument and it did make me chuckle
Game of two halves again for City but Liverpool must be massive favourites for this
* personally I think they are just saying you cant dive in with two feet and tackle just like you cannot tackle from behind or they will give a foul- last nights ref seems to have not read that memo though so Mancini has a point to be fair.
Nothing wrong with Johnsons tackle it was just full on and straight at the ball. If Lescott was further forward I think it would have just kicked his lower leg out of the way.
edit: watching the vid over and over I think Johnsons aim was to clear the ball before Lescott got their hence he launched himself, I dont think he intended to make any contact whatsoever with Lescott
I think Kompanys was marginally worse as IIRC the player was in the way of his two feet coming through so their may have been more risk of injury. I think Kompanys was Yellow but neither were malicious and were in keeping with the tone of the games, neither game was particulalrly "dirty"
I agree that Mancini was not really trying to get Johnson sent off but he was gesturing last week on the touchline waving an imginary card which we dont like to see on the pitch let alone by the managers.
Im a LFC supporter BTW
The letter of the law say if you go in two footed with your studs showing, you're walking. I think both would have been harsh though*, as they both played the ball.
Neither was anywhere near as bad as Lampards similar challenge last week, for which he got a yellow
* despite being a Man Yoo fan, I didn't think Kompany's was a red
The letter of the law say if you go in two footed with your studs showing, you're walking.
It doesn't, or if it does then I can't see it written like this in the rules.
I think, without evidence myself, that this is a media interpretation of the rules. But I'd be happy to be proved wrong.
Edit: I think Lineker hinted towards this last night, but it doesn't make for as much post match controversy/banter.

What's the odds on liverpool scoring a pen and shaving 11 behind the ball when united visit for the cup. The carragher scoring a 92nd min header in his own net?
Elf - whaddya think of Glen Johnson's tackle then?
Brilliant interception. the kind of tackle that until recently, wooduv bin hailed as a 'Great Tackle' by commentators and pundits the World over. He got the ball.
Havunt seen the Kompany tackle to compare, because of the unique way football is brought to you and the fact that the greedy bastard tv companies have even a tiny clip removed from tinternet, but I think it's daft that a clean tackle, which gets the ball, can be penalised.
Footy's a contact sport ffs, in the sense that tackling almost always contact with the opposing player.
If nonsense like this continues, we'll end up with no tackling at all. Ridiculous.
Mancini is a knob, simple as that. Lies about his own players, acts like a hypocrite, poor loser.
Kind of like an Italian Bacon Face actually...
Nasri shooduv walked for putting the heid in on Carragher. Brave little lad though; Carra would properly knack him if it really came to it.
I would be really very happy to see Shi... Citeh win naff all this season, and Mancini sacked. Sheik Mansour gets bored, takes his money elsewhere, and Citeh sink back into mediocrity, where they belong. That would make me laugh.
The return leg at Anfield will be a spicy one. I predict at least one red card....
@ tails: Pretty long I'd say.
I think Kompanys was Yellow but neither were malicious and were in keeping with the tone of the games, neither game was particulalrly "dirty"
Dirty, malicious? Possibly not.
Dangerous? Definitely.
Oh, so no tackling in footy anymore in case the delicate little lambs get hurt? 😥
Diddums.
Arsenal fayn, int yer? Thought so....
If nonsense like this continues, we'll end up with no tackling at all. Ridiculous.
Don't be so melodramatic. When I was playing football at school 20 years ago 2 footed tackles, whether you got the ball or not, were at the least a yellow card.
Nasri shooduv walked for putting the heid in on Carragher. Brave little lad though; Carra would properly knack him if it really came to it.
Whattaguy! The reaction was because Carragher gave him a bitchy little kick. Like a bitch.

No, I support a team from close to where I was born and brought up.
Good for you. 😀

Bless. 😆
Was just a little 'Stepney Ankle Tap'. The kind of thing I get (and give out) several times a game when I play. The kind of thing I just laugh off. Only a little whiny girl would get upset about such a little tap.
😆
The thread that just keeps giving 🙂
😉
who do you actually support?
Shadenfreude in football is just so tragic hopefully your team can win something 😉
Mleh to it we murdered them first half second half a lot more mixed. There goals came from nothing but that is all that matters not who played bect
Okish game to wathc
Goalie does not look like a great buy
Lovely bit of defending there by everyones favourite cheat.
aye and a great celebration by the scousers favourite racist
Havunt seen the Kompany tackle
Ahhhh the "Wenger" defence.
Two manc sides out of two cups in one week. 😆
(yes, would swap it all for a shout at the title of course)
I thought it was a mistake playing the massive cock, disgraced in his own country, Evra. He did nothing today. Well, apart from being involved in gifting the winner.
