Picked up a 2010 Santa Fe Auto a couple of weeks ago. It is the premium model and I'm very pleased with it so far. Drives well and plenty of extras. The only thing is I'm struggling to come to terms with real world MPG. Had a long run at the weekend, steady A roads and motorway and only just got 30mpg. That was driving very very carefully and sitting at 70mph on cruise control on the motorway.

Had a look on a couple of other forums but struggling to get a clear picture of what other people are getting out of their cars. I'm trying to establish if this is a problem that needs fixing or if it is the best that I can expect.

Ta

It must be 2 tonne of 4wd metal - you're not going to get 35 mpg + from it, but you may get nearer if you dropped the cruise speed to 60.

Hi Frank,

That doesn't sound right. I was a Hyundai Salesman for 5 years until 2010 (just when they introduced the 2nd version of the mk 2. I had a few 2.2 crdi autos as demos and I was averaging 32mpg, but that was purely town driving. I was rarely on the motorways.

I know they up'd the power on the latest model (I think around 160 ish BHP) and I'm sure they introduced a Diesel Particulate Filter.

Depending on who you purchased the car from (private sale or dealer), I would take it to a Hyundai Main Dealer and ask them to check it out. Their warranty is fantastic, so if there is an issue, you shouldn't have any problem getting it fixed, just remember to stick to the servicing intervals and keep your book stamped.

Good luck.

Brilliant, thanks for that.

Hav etried asking on a couple of Hyundai Forums but they are populated by caravan towers who quote xls spreadsheets when you ask!

Should have come to STW forst time round....

30mpg sounds reasonable,
engine nothing special and aeordynamics of a house and weighs the same..
also expect gearbox problems in near future (forums quote plenty of diff and main box bearing failures that 1st seen as oil leaks on driveway),, main dealer will rape your wallet.. expect big bills.
gearbox parts required are v.expensive and your looking at £700+VAT for the rebuild (at a non franchized box specialist).
