About to get one of these off my brother for pretty cheap, drives fine only issue is it drinks the oil, he reckons every 6weeks he has to top it up. Iv googled it and get mixed messages that it could be the oil rings on either the top valves or bottom, just curious is this an expensive job?

6 weeks, how many miles?
Most manufacturers will say a 1lt every 500 miles is in tolerance.
If you've got a put a 1lt in every 6 weeks or so and its cheap, it doesn't seem a problem.
