explain and critically discuss the importance and management of sustainability in the delivery of sustainable facilities management services

I believe that the importance of sustainability and the management there of, is at the core of sustainable FM services. more critical analysis of the situation will reveal that removing the sustainability from this funtion will result in a non-sustainable FM service.

Equally it can be argued that if you remove the facilitties management from the equation anf focused purely on the sustainability you would end up with a sustainble services but not a sustainable facilities management service.

From this critical analysis of the proposition it is clear that sustainability is critical to the sustainable FM services but that this level of criticality must be managed carefully so it does not remove faciltites management from the equation.

Thank you.

*FM is more that toilet roll in toilets, you need to wipe the plant leaves with a wet sponge once a month too.

@BigBikeBash

You are a tad out of touch I'm afraid. Plants are now leased and rotated by the leasing company, hence negating the need for leaf wipers and freeing up cost from the staff budget and transferred to the expense budget. It also negates the capital expense of plant puchase and the inherrent difficultings of trying to make the asset last for the 5 years that it is 'on the books' until fully depreciated.

Sorry, I thought it was a question about bullshit. I am qualified at that but not at facilities managment it would appear.

BTW. When you say the plants are rotated by the leasing company, does that mean all the dusty leaves are at the back now?

Who knows? The just dissapear when the foxy babe in the 'ickle van swaps them for something new. I suspect that they are turned into hippy eco clothing rather than being dusted as the ecological harm inflicted on the planet from duster production is shocking. That said, 'FM' is pretty much a 'outsource centre' now and typically the average FM department will do sod all, having outsourced everything. There are some FM rules (regional, london rules quoted here) to follow and these include outsourcing the:
cleaning to a company employing spanish speakers only;
move planning to inept architects;
furniture moving to wide boys from Romford
AV provision to dicks who can't measure things

etc

So you are outsourcing the dull bit of your studies which is about outsourcing the dull bits of running a company, right?

I would go onto a couple of FM providers web sites and see what they tell you. Then go onto a couple of sites of companies that provide outsource contract management and see what tey say and then fiddle with the words enough so the web copy spotter software doesn't pick up what you have done.

I was a FM for a few years but have no idea what you question is about! as stated by stonemonkey i proudly stated i was in charge of toilets and t shirts but least it paid the bills and went onto become site engineering manager whilst having not being a qualified engineer so was a nice stepping stone for me!

Just PFI it then pick up the tab when the banks refuse to allow them to draw down their unsustainable financing.

Stonemonkey - just out of interest, where are you studying for your MSc? im a chartered BS, and am putting one of my team through an MSc in building surveying at Liverpool JMU, but if that question is typical of the LJMU courseworks, I might start making him pay for the course himself!

What BBB said. Take sustainability out of sustainable management of anything and all you have left is management. Strange question.

Its all about the triple bottom line. Get that and Brundtland in, but criticise Brundtland's definition of Sustainable Development.
