Got a NAD 521i CD player that has a faulty laser drive chip, according to the guy that looked at it. Didn't get fixed by him as it was going to cost more to repair than it cost to buy. So are there any home repair men/women on here? Could I fix it myself?

Depends if you can get the chip (shouldn't be that hard - try Farnells etc) and then you need someone who can remove the faulty one and fit the new one. It's one of those pain in the arse repairs I'm afraid.

Ok, will have a look. Its been sitting in a box for about seven years so nothing lost if I try and it doesn't work.

Steven.

Where abouts in the UK are you ? I'm down in the South East (Southend type area) and know a guy who's fantastic at soldering (reguarly fixes computers pcb's, Xbox's, car dash readouts etc) and would probably only charge 10-15 quid if its just a case of de-solder the old, fit and solder the new chip ? Probably only of use if you live pretty local otherwise I suspect the cost of postage each way would make it prohibitive ?

I'm just outside Edinburgh. A faulty one sold on ebay the other day for £35 so I'm might just do that.
