I'm advertising a classic car online atm, got an enquiry purportedly from a foreign (European) gent, his name links to a bona fide business (his law firm) but the return address was "his business name"@gmail.com.
Gotta be a scammer, yes?
not necessarily
i've dealt with a lot of people overseas who use aol and gmail email addresses for work
Why? I often see businesses being run from hotmail accounts. There's a local bus company who even have a hotmali.com account on the back of their buses!
Spanish is he?
I've got an official @myname.es account and an myname@gmail.com account.
Would a law firm in Rome do this though? Unimaginable to me that he would not have email @"his business name".it
I've responded briefly and asked him a few quuestions, no response.
FWIW I recently had some enquiries at work purportedly from a large Taiwnanese manufacturer, about chasing several £M debt, from a yahoo account. He stopped emailing after the most basic questions were asked.
I'd be inclined to take a dose of your username on this one 😉
Pretty much everyone in Nigeria uses web mail, because local web servers/hosts are completely untrustworthy basically. Wouldn't have thought it's quite the same in Italy but it is a bit of a banana republic 🙂
You mean that Nigerian email was legit after all?
perhaps he doesn't want his business to be associated with his personal financial dealings.
Is it a big law firm or just a one-man band trying to appear big? You really do need to trust people more... 😆
I certainly wouldn't dismiss it simply for that, a bit more investigating will get you the truth.
Does he have a web page?
Pook - Memberperhaps he doesn't want his business to be associated with his personal financial dealings.
+1
Plenty of folk here have a free-mail address for here/shoppping/etc and a proper work one. I certainly do, not least because almost anything non-nhs gets 'impounded' before I get it, and I don't want my work inbox full of offers from play.com, casinos and online pahrmacies.
perhaps he doesn't want his business to be associated with his personal financial dealings.
...but then he'd understand about the need for mutual trust.
I once bought a MX5 from an English lad based in Germany. There was no way at all I was going to move forward without multiple-checks one of those being him emailing from work and me discreetly calling the business and asking for him.
Rome = dodgy.
Dont they all drink red wine, have same-sex orgies and stab each other in the back?
have same-sex orgies and stab each other in the back
Aren't they the same thing? Well, for blokes obviously.
