It's a crossover, I'm out.
Giulia or nothing.

True but it's a market they have been missing out on for a long time. If it works it could open up a lot of sales.

For an SUV it looks awesome. Price could be a bit eye watering I'd imagine though! Giulia for me when in about 10 years time when I can afford a 2nd hand one.

Cars that look great, are likely to suffer from poor engineering, but we all (well most) still want one! Would consider a uses one, a year after launch, with a manufacturer warranty

It's been a while coming, I remember there being talk of a 156 based crossover back in the late 90s.

Unfortunately, there's a huge market for crossovers. Even Bentley are at it.

I'd go with your vanilla Giulia every time.

Alfa want to break back into the states, therefore an SUV is absolutely essential, it will outsell the Giulia massively over there.

It might be necessary to Alfa's survival and sales of this may pay for the actual decent cars, like Porsche did with the Cayenne in the early 2000's.

Not for me but if the sales go well and it means they can make something more interesting then why not.

Not hard when the USA sales in 2016 amount to 7 cars for the Giulia. Even in Europe for 2016 the sales figures are tiny ~3-4k.

Looks interesting. I suspect the price will be bonkers as FCA seem to be pushing Alfa further towards the Maserati end of the market.

Press kit has more info, but only one piccy so far. Is it on the 500x/renegate floor pan or something else?

Dunno, I just found the picture for Pete. Wouldn't be much use if it was though. How would you get a 29er or pallet of bricks in the back?

😀

Nice one Matt.

In the rare moments I fantasise about being a Ferrari F1 works driver, it's not the crumpet, the heritage, the money, the crumpet, the glory, the crumpet or the actual driving I dream about.

It's the possibility of having a stealthy Mk1 facelift Doblo with some factory modifications.

🙂

Looks great, especially a gta variant with the Ferrari engineered V6 from the Giulia 😯

I don't know what to make of that. As crossovers go it's not bad looking, but it also looks a lot like the Giulia. But not as nice.

Look at the positives.

Pointless premium 4*4's at least give you a good idea of who to avoid at parties.

I'd probably avoid the bloke looking out the window to check what everyone drives.

You wouldn't have to look, they usually mention it.
🙂
Not serious btw, I just don't like the genre and occasionally erroneously assume the inherent tastelessness and pointlessness of this type of vehicle reflects on the personality of the driver.

😀

You could make a doblo abarth quite easily. Its just a punto underneath.

Love too.
🙂

Not too crazy though, a 595 with decent suspension and proper brakes would be lovely.

there's an Abarth Fiat 500x coming out - bit smaller but could be fun.

How d'you work that one out, then?
onally erroneously assume the inherent tastelessness and pointlessness of this type of vehicle reflects on the personality of the driver.

Having the opportunity to drive a very wide selection of current cars, for more than a few minutes at a time, and now being of a certain age, I've really come to appreciate the advantages of crossover cars, the main one being just how much easier it is to get in and out when the car sits higher off the ground, and the higher seating position offering a much better view of everything that's going on around you.
They're a utility vehicle, if you want tasteless then perhaps you ought to look instead at updated hot hatches with all the extra wings and whatnot, which are more a penis enhancement device than anything like a practical vehicle.

Nah, no BMW ever had lights like that, they're riffing off the Giulietta tail lights:
