(Takes deep breath, prepares for lack of knowledge to be exposed)...
Ok, so I like many others here have one of the DX 900lm magicshine lights. What with all the (spelling) kerfuffle about the batteries I have been considering alternatives...
... Looking through the assorted detritus in my house and shed I have a couple of Nimh batteries, an 8.4 and a 7.2V 3700mah units. Is there a reason that I can't hook one of these up to the head unit? The max voltage for the light is listed as 8.4V - but the 18650's are listed as 3.7, 2 parallel = 7.4V.
I understand that the Li-ions on full charge hit around 8.4, then drop down to the 7.4 level - so presumably I am running the risk of over-volting the LED using the 8.4 pack and should use the 7.2 - or will this not have enough oompf to drive the LED?
(Apologies for use of the words kefuffle and oompf when discussing a technical subject.) 😯
