I'm off to France on holiday tomorrow, might not have day nab when there

What's the best way to navigate around on my phone without annihilating my data?

Use Google maps in the UK - I guess I need a different app and need to download some maps?

Any suggestions?

Second navmii. It worked well for me in France/Belgium/Germany just fine. Of course, if you're on Three, you can use your data in France now anyway.

Currently in Menorca using Map Factors Navigator it has been excellent. It's free just download your map before you leave then purely GPS as per Tom Tom etc.

Used Navfree in France last year, in conjunction with Tomtom, maps and the fact that I more or less know the route by heart. It did try and take me some very strange routes so I would advise use with caution. I have no doubt that it would alwys get you where you wanted to go and if you were ignorant of any other roads you might find that enough. But being aware that it is trying to send you down 20 miles of country lanes instead of 3 miles up the dual carriageway doesn't really inspire confidence in the system 🙂

copilot europe

£20 when I bought it, but my experience with it was a country mile better than the free alternatives (sensible routing, decent UI, no crashes etc)

We use WAZE, very good. It does use data though. You can cache google maps in advance when you have wifi or UK data. Cheapest option is to buy a map 😉

I just use google maps. Vodafone charge a flat rate of £3/ day for access to my UK call and data allowance.

@ransos - Yes, with three it's included FOC.

For those that haven't tried WAZE I have found the graphics much better, routing and traffic info better as as its a community/social network you get other local updates like weather and also mobile police radars/car locations. WAZE is quite popular in France, seems most of the lorry drivers use it. You can see the other users live on the maps.

How is that cheaper than downloading a free app with preloaded maps?
