I am visiting Amsterdam this weekend and wanted to know if anyone could tell me a good cycling route that i can follow to take in the sights. I am looking at hiring a bike for myself and the better half, any cycle hire recommendations would be also appreciated.
I've always used Macbike, who are really easy to find from the Centraal (spl?) train station. Out of the station, turn left and there they are! Cheap, reliable bikes.
As to a route? Well, just go and ride! Pick up a map and go and get lost. Head to the Rijskmuseum and the Vondelpark, certainly.

Look up bikefiets on-line for some low traffic routes. In true Dutch style you can roll your own route using bits of the fiets network.
What is the fiets network ?
Fiets = Bicycle
There are good bike lanes EVERYWHERE. I'd just pick the things you want to see and then take the most obvious route between them. If it's anything more than an 30kph/18mph access road then it'll almost certainly have a segregated bike path.
