This is interesting, as a fair skinned person I slap on the sunscreen as soon as the sun peaks around the clouds when out cycling, but it looks like a lot of the spf ratings could be junk. It seems to be restricted to Australia at the moment as a "scandal" but appears it could be a worldwide problem.

This was a thing many years ago too. It was discovered that you have to layer it on really thickly and it doesn't even last that long. Covering up is the best option.
Didn't this last come around about 20 years ago? IIRC, the coconut-flavoured brand was one of the ones highlighted as utterly useless

Pleased to see it’s objective lab analysis cos the last time sunscreen viability popped into the public sphere was some influencer-****er perpetuating anti-vax propaganda.
This is different from the past revelations, it is basically falsely certifying the DPF factors of the sunscreen.
I'm as white as they come, never use sunscreen and don't go even slightly red. All I've ever wanted was a cyclists suntan.
I do wear a hat though.
I was half expecting the Sick Bicycle clowns to be the entrepreneurs behind the dodgy sunscreen formula.

They should just give it out on free prescription, or put proper SPF 50 in dispensers on the beach, eh?

If you look at the BBc news article on this from a few weeks ago I think there's some brands listed - but i think they're Aus specific.
It's also worth noting 2 things if you are not aware...
The SPF scale isn't linear. SPF 20 Isn’t twice as much protection as SPF 10, for example... I forget the scale but it's only like 10% more protection or something.
Secondly you need to look at more than just the SPF rating...
SPF only accounts for UVB protection. You need to look at the UVA rating too... It's a star rating that's sometimes in smaller print and sometimes on the rear of the bottle... Some sun creams don't have this, so assume the worst /buyer beware.
