Been with M&S for a few years now, mainly due to their "under £4k and its fine policy.
But they've just changed underwriters and my premium has jumped £100!
Anyone else offer good bike (£2500) friendly policies?
Mine went up by £232.
Try John Lewis.
Greenbee is very similar cover, some people find it cheaper but most quotes come in much more expensive.
A few have asked this exact question over the last few months, myself included. I think most stay with M&S in the end, although obviously, let your cover lapse and take out a new policy via the website to get the online discount 🙂
Same situation for me, I went to ING and saved loads. Cover seems equivelent

Not as good as M&S...pedal cycles are an extra cost option and even then are limited to a value of £250. With M&S pedal cycles are included, don't need to be declared and covered to £4k each. Up til now, I hadn't found anyone apart from M&S/Greenbee who would insure a bike locked in a car unless it was hidden below a parcel shelf.
Edit: ING's policy document contradicts what is stated on the website, small print says bike is covered to £1000 each, max £2500 per claim, which is better. Also surprisingly, locked to an immovable object includes a vehicle, so locking a bike to a welded seatbelt mount or similar in the car presumably counts.
I checked to policy again. Claims on bikes are not limited to £1k (that I can see) but the bike must have been locked to an immovable object. Therefore policy is not as good as M&S and I'll be looking to change.
Just doing the same thing.
Was with M&S for building and contents cover last year, had my renewal quote of £550 through the post this morning.
Went to the M&S website and put in the exact same details and am currently being quoted £270 as a new customer.
And if the quidco cashback tracks it'll be £240 all in.
Bargaintastic!
Just double checking everything now...
Mine went up £100 too however specialist bike cover for my bikes was going to cost £350 alone!
Frank, might be nothing to worry about as cover details do change...but I went to ING site, clicked summary of cover at bottom, and then policy details page 43. I remember discounting ING earlier in the year when I was looking to renew.
Just done online qoute with M&S and now working out only £15 more than ING, that include being honest removing household intruder alarm as we never use it!
I'll be changing back asap. How can an annual renewal be nearly £200 more than a new quote online?
Similar situation a couple of weeks ago, managed to save £200 and stay with M&S after a bizarre phone call where they wouldn't drop the renewal quote, but were quite happy to let me cancel the original policy and then take out a new one at the internet price. Bizarre.
If you play around with the online quote thing you'll notice things like burglar alarms make hardly any difference to the quote. For the sake of a £5 saving, they get to wriggle out of paying when you popped out to the shops and forgot to set it!
